For those who quit the regionals...

I was toiling as an FO at a "good" regional (my second regional btw) just after 9/11. No upgrade in sight, in spite of being a captain at my previous regional for a few years. I was offered a job as an associate professor at a prestigious university as well as being their chief flight...

He probably couldn't stomach the thought of going back to his hut in Kolkatta!

I'm not going to apply until they start hiring Direct Entry Captains! TIC

    Compass or ASA?

Go to whichever gets you in the left seat quicker! Being an FO at a regional sucks. I was in your shoes about a decade ago and I chose ASA where I sat as an FO for a long time. Meanwhile, "crappy" airlines like Chataqua, Mesa, Republic continued to grow rapidly and offer upgrades as fast...

Where to live in ATL area?

I vote for the PTC. Lots more "transplants" there than "locals." Newnan has too many rednecks. Of course, the new outdoor mall in Newnan (Ashley Park) is bigger than the one in PTC. You can split the difference between PTC and Newnan in Sharpsburg. If you do PTC, most of the schools are as...

That is so true! To-kyo Ro-ger.

Which country's ATC is hardest to understand?

Yangon is the worst. Why do we even talk to these people? Also, the Indonesians are a trainwreck too.

Intoxicated US pilot pulled from cockpit in Netherlands

Since the ride from the Hague to Schipol is just as long as it is to Amsterdam, he was screwed either way. He could have spent some time on the beach in Schenvinengen though!

Intoxicated US pilot pulled from cockpit in Netherlands

You guys are missing the point here! What the hell was he doing in Amsterdam being drunk? You're supposed to get high and bang a whore, not go to the bar!

    Great Lakes

Kalifornia- We both seem to agree that GLA pilots are underpaid. We just seem to disagree on why. I never said I agree that our profession should be one that you have to make welfare wages to gain experience and move on; I merely pointed out that it has been done that way for a long time.

    Great Lakes

Kalifornia- You seem to be missing my point. I think pilots are worth more than they are paid whether it be airline or coporate. I also don't think all businesses have the same ability to pay their pilots. GLA doesn't make Goldman Sachs money so it certainly won't pay its employees as such...

An airline flies passengers to generate revenue; whereas, a corporate flight department flies passengers as an expense to an existing corporation. One generates revenue (or tries to) and the other generates an expense. Your comparison is not apples to apples.

How much should an airline that flies 4 people to Riverton, WY pay its labour? This is not continental express that flies a full rj to higher density American cities! It's GLA! Even if they paid double, it would still be less than we are worth. Emb beat me to it, but as he pointed out this...

Are Airline Pilots Heavily in Debt??

Airline Deregulation is here to stay, deal with it. Pay won't be coming back to what it was 20 years ago. You shouldn't need Suzy to tell you that!

    crw overrun transcript

The only thing I found disturbing was that after the airplane came to a stop, the guy in the left seat seemed to stop being concerned about his passengers and crew and worry more about himself. It took his Chief Pilot to make him ask if the gear had collapsed! As for the initial mistake...it...

    UA "national seniority list"

Don't forget about the PanAm pilots that got full DOH seniority at UAL when UAL bought the L1011's to get the routes! Apparently, UAL honored DOH then.
