What about fltplan.com's program? http://www.fltsafety.com/SMSinfo.htm
I know little to nothing about all this except that ICAO countries are on board and we probably will be soon. Just another burden methinks. Next we'll have to get doctor's notes to go flying.
The guy that first showed me the iPad had this case so I got the same: Leather case
Looks like a binder(instead of "hey look! an iPad!"), is sturdy, and holds it in super tight. I would NOT recommend using the iPad without a case. Feels like it's going to slide off your lap.
Just remember, if...
Overall I still love it and I find more uses for it all the time, albeit not aviation related. Battery seems to go forever, too. I'll use it in flight, watch Netflix or surf at the FBO and use it again on the trip back with tons of battery to spare. Did I mention you can read full...
Picked one up yesterday and I have to say the more I use Foreflight, the more I love it. You can get everything from one spot and fast. No more paging through the AC-U-KWIK either. However, I do have a couple beefs with it. Here goes:
1. Downloads of all the charts took about 7 hours(slower...
As far as the enroute charts go, I was initially not enthused with the cross section you see. Granted you can pinch the screen to zoom in or out, but finding a specific fix became a little harder zoomed out. But how many times do you stare at your charts for random fixes? Like your GPS/FMS, all...
Tried the iPad with Foreflight this morning and ordered one at noon. I can switch between approaches, arrivals, charts, you name it, faster than I could ever do with the paper. You can pull up the TFRs, Notams, Wx, etc., before flight and have them there onboard instead of printing off a sheet...
We've got other units that display XM WX so we're not concerned with that. One thing I'll check out today is to see how easy it is to just from one chart to the next. i.e., switching arrivals or approaches last second. Not the best time to fumble through menus, etc.
Yep, another EFB thread, but what I'm seeing this is quite the improvement. I'm wondering if anyone out there is using the iPad as a paper replacement and your pros and cons. I'll be getting hands-on tomorrow with one that has Foreflight installed. $75/year for for all IFR charts and then some...
Well I'll be damned. Your /cell.htm takes you right to the wx request page. Nice. The others links listed allow full feature access of fltplan.com, but I use that far less often. Now if only I could bookmark each airport. I know...lazy. I do most text entry with the phone vertical which is most...
Not to be an as$, but you didn't read any of the posts did you? If fltplan.com allowed you to bookmark specific airports it'd be perfect, although it could be a little more aesthetically pleasing. By being able to bookmark frequented airports, you save the frustration of fat finger syndrome when...
m.airwx.com and Yahoo!Finance(mobile) allow you to bookmark airports and stocks, respectively. Much quicker than sending a text, at least for me. It's just that I've seen products that will show METAR, TAF, Radar, etc., all on the same page. Fltplan.com won't allow you to bookmark airport wx...
www.fltplan.com/PDA.htm looks to have nearly all the content of the full site, but my Storm doesn't display it all that well and it doesn't look like I can bookmark specific airports nor save my user/password.
Just saw Aero Weather for iPhone/Touch and figured there has to be something as good out there for my BB Storm. All I can find for the Blackberry is AirWX and WXSYS. WXSYS is awesome but I'm not going to pay $13/month. Any ideas? Feel free to list off all the good ones for each smartphone maker.
X2.
What part of the country are you in and what aircraft do you fly? If you're hurting for money, check into overseas flying to hold you over until you find something domestic. Good luck.
