Everybody praises ALPA, APA, IPA, etc. when they take these kinds of ads out in national papers...but when USAPA does it "Oh no, what a waste of money!"

I don't like USAPA or the premise for their creation any more than the next guy, but the hypocrisy evident here HAS to be obvious to people...

The difference is those 8 captains are willfully wasting fuel at the behest of USAPA under the guise of "good unionism" I'd fire them all, not "re-educate" them.

APA,SWAPPA, et. al are forces to be reckoned with...USAPA is a pathetic joke run by impotent old men. The have no clout, no support, zero respect and the company must laugh hysterically every time they pump up their puny little chests and act tough.

Rome is burning and this is how they choose to spend tens of thousands of their members dollars? Remember they're only collecting dues from about 50% of the entire pilot group. They need to be in a crisis saving mode, not wasting it on paper thin, utterly ineffective, tough guy antics that nobody cares about.

It just highlights the fact that these psuedo leaders really don't have a clue as to what they're doing. They dug a hole so deep, they have no idea how to get out of it. Amatures.

Went to the USAPA website to find the USAToday ad... not there... or its buried some where...

To increase exposure at zero cost, I'd think any communication specialist...would have that ad up on their own website....

xxxxx can't afford communications specialists. Copilot xxxxx needs to waste all of the dues money on his own petty little vendettas like suing AWA pilots unsuccessfully.

To me that another $100,000 wasted and one step closer to bankruptcy. I hope they take out more full-page ads all week long.

Boiler up,

The difference is that USAPA is picking a fight with the company over a non issue. They like to make it out like the company is robbing pilots of captain's authority. Nothing could be further from the truth.

This company has always backed up their captains even if the decisions were somewhat questionable. At issue is 8 people out of 5,000 who regularly feel they need to add additional fuel with no rational basis. Used to we could add up to 2,000 pounds whenever we wanted. Some captains always added 2,000 pounds every flight no matter what. Myself, in 19 years I have asked for additional fuel to my planned load twice.

These 8 out of 5,000 are just guessing about their flights, in my opinion, rather than basing their decisions on any hard or factual data. They are failing to utilize all their available resources to arrive at an appropriate course of action. It is a very unprofessional and casual way to run an aircraft.

I hope these 8 people out of the 5,000 pilot population learn something about being a professional aviator. These 8 are anything but.

80 F/A's walked this past Monday? (Obviously) They quit due to the firings?

You have a comprehension problem or something ? Everytime someone has something new to post , you seem to need some sort of further clarification. Why don't you take what the person says at face value? Ah,the intial stages of Alzaheimers claims another unfortunate victim.

It was an average of 2500 pounds of fuel over the course of a trans Atlantic flight.
That works out to 7-10 minutes of fuel in the 330 and a little more in the 76.

Do you still have issues with the fuel or are you still to filled with hate that the East wont let you order the fuel in that 330 for a few more years.
You can hate the East til the cows come home, but if you cant put that aside when management does something like this, (using the training dept as a hammer), or see the repercussions that this stunt would do to all airline pilots, I dont believe there is any hope.
You dont have to hate the East any less to not support management telling the Captain how much fuel he is allowed to have.

You've created that hate by forcing xxxxxx on the West and trying to abrogate their seniority rights. You reap what you sow.

This issue has nothing to do with seniority.
But I guess someone with your moral character would not know the difference.

How is your ALPA campaign doing at your airline?

Buy any jobs recently?

FR8,

In theory, I'd agree that bringing someone into training for adding fuel is BS....BUT, when we regularly see East A/C all over the system burning both engines and the APU on taxi out/in and USAPA espousing 'contract negotiations mode', it's hard for us to keep our suspicions at bay that fuel is being intentionally wasted.

It is even harder for us to get behind the call to arms to defend Captain's Authority considering USAPA attempted to remove Captain's Authority from control of the jumpseat via a restraining order. The hypocricy of the current outrage is ripe.

I would be much more concerned with your 'union's' willingness to spend 100k+ to sue AWA pilots and another 100k+ to put an ad in the USA Today while the company is actively attempting to furlough large numbers from both sides.

Current top priorities for other real unions are fighting tooth and nail to mitigate furloughs by any and all means necessary. USAPA has publically stated that they believe the furloughs are a negotiation move by the company. In the meantime, they've become consumed with attacking/threatening the west over dues money, passing resolutions on gear pin usage and appointing themselves the 'defenders' of captain's authority while systematically ignoring the pressing needs of the majority of the pilot group. USAPA is a total joke.
