USAirways off the runway at PHL

A US Airways Airbus A320-200, registration N113UW performing flight US-1702 from Philadelphia,PA to Fort Lauderdale,FL (USA) with 149 people on board, was accelerating for takeoff from runway 27L when one of the nose gear tyres blew causing the aircraft to veer off the runway. The crew rejected takeoff, the aircraft came to a stop off the runway with the nose gear collapsed. The aircraft was evacuated. There were no injuries.

Really????? That's like saying engines don't stop working. What a dumb statement. Yes they can..... I've hit FOD on a Runway at V1 and have had one of my nose wheels blown. So yes it can happen.

I would bet there is video forthcoming. They were either 30'+ in the air per eyewitness accounts or they weren't.

And I bet one of the engines were "sputtering" as well.

Strong winds, heavy aircraft and mechanical malfunction all came into play making this a bad situation. Cudos to the pilots on a job well done!!

Too early and too little info to throw rocks yet, but could not happen to nicer guys...Sully is a loser since his day on the stand in May of 2009 telling his lies of integrity and trying to use his "Star" power to sway a jury of USAPA's DFR...

I had one blow last year departing 32R in ORD....happened just before V1. We took off and advised the tower, who promptly closed the runway and found remnants of our tire. Burned down fuel to minimal weight and landed....tires changed in 28 pad, passengers bussed to terminal, FAA on scene, etc.

It happens, but a high speed abort due to tire failure alone is probably a bad idea.....let's see what they find with this accident before we all decide what happened.
