No one at Shuttle is supposed to be refusing jumpseats. If that actually happened please forward it to your JS coordinator our JS committee would love to hear about it.
There shouldnt be any denial unless UAL gets the problem fixed before Aug 1st. You should be only getting a letter with your jumpseat request stating the problem from the Captain.
No balls and no brains. Jumpseat denials are NOT the current protocol for dealing with UA mainline. If this captain was denying the jumpseat for that reason, he is yet another embarrassing pilot who choses not to educate himself fully before playing captain.
However, if the jumpseat was deferred due to oxygen or headset issues, then there is no problem. And likewise, a captain on a quick turn has better things to do than go up and apologize to every jumpseater for our broken equipment. Utilizing a gate agent is appropriate in such a situation.
There are at least two sides to every story... did you bother finding out any of them before posting here? If the answer is yes, then please include more specifics so that the issue can be properly dealt with. You gave flight info, but no account of why the jumpseat was denied.
...And, why are UPS pilots concerning themselves with United Express/Mainline business. Isn't working for Brown enough fun, you've gotta spread rumors and tell half truths on the regional board. Seriously, as said before, there are two sides to the story. Find out the other side and then report back.
