In airline history has there been a case similar to SW/AT where one group gained so much? Usually it means somebody gets furloughed. Any good deals previously?

No good deals previosly and no one is getting furloughed. Once SWA starts to connect dots between the two route maps there should be some nice growth.

Did anybody get furloughed NWA/DAL? It certainly created a large airline (and they fly International!)

Sure looks like UAL/CAL has already started adding jobs.
My take is the whole airline industry is not going to lose any seats anywhere. Before competition got bought up and shrunk down, now all the seats are needed whoever is flying them and any mergers will be for growth.

Delta/Western, Delta/Northeast worked out pretty good for most of the Western/Northeast folks.

Want to go way back.... United/Capital, Flying Tigers/Seaboard and I don't believe anyone suffered in Flying Tigers/FedEx.

WN and F9???? DOOOHHHHH!!!!!! This message its brought to you by SWINGLINE! The best staplers money can buy! Accept no substitute !! :)

Here's some more history, Republic was the result of North Central, Hughes AirWest and Southern merging, growth for all. Republic than merged with NWA.
This industry is full of both good and bad mergers. Allegheny (USAir)/Mohawk was considered the Gold Seal of mergers. That was followed by USAir/ Piedmont and PSA merging. USAir and Piedmont were two of the financially strongest and best performing airlines in the industry at the time, Piedmont had labor/management relations at least as good as SWA has today. It was a disaster and that lead to USAir/AmWest......

The bottom line is you never know how they will turn out till long after it has happened.
