"These incidents illustrate the potential for such devices to create a hazardous distraction during critical phases of flight,"

There's already a rule about distractions during critical phases of flight. That one, too, is largely ignored - 99.9% of the time without any degradation of performance. Does anyone REALLY believe two pilots flew 2 hours without communication and overshot their destination because they were using their PEDs?

These people are every bit as stupid as those who think new laws will stop criminals who never obeyed the previous ones.

Pretty sure most FOMs already prohibited this under various language. Note it says "personal use".

Too funny! This is the same FAA that allows PED's in the main cabin and over 80% of the passengers are banging out music on there iphones instead of listening to the FA's during safety announcements.

Guess it's much safer reading the USA Today in Paper form...... SMH Guess it's back to doing the crossword puzzle!!

Check airman says...
Rule # 1 Do not use PEDs or read non-mission related reading materials.
Rule # 2 Stay awake at all times during flight.
Rule # 3 Break all rules as necessary to comply with Rule #2.

Last I checked the passengers were not at the controls of the airplane.

While we are at it, could the dear Feds require Flight Attendants to hold medicals like the rest of the world does?

OMG how will Jenny Leigh (aka Mercy) keep up with her postings on FI?! Oh the horror!
