I don't wear hats at my job, but here's my take...

If they can't trust you for the little stuff, how can they trust you on the big stuff?

I don't have hat envy, but when I DH or JS though a terminal and see the AA and DAL guys with their hats--I really don't go "dorks" either. I'm glad I don't have to wear one, but I know they are doing their thing--the way they are paid to do. Just like I wore that STUPID c-cap my whole AF career.

AA, DAL, NWA, and UAL brought up the profession with their wages until the 9/11 events gave management the shot to take them back. Its nice to see those guys getting their pride back. I don't want to wear the hat--but I want the guys that do to keep bringing up the working conditions and setting the standards. Hard to do that if you look like a non-comformist, a goof off, or a slob. Look professional--act professional.

If you don't like them--do what XJT did and negotiate the hats away.

As for me--back in 2001 I got hired by FDX, Jetblue, and the ANG. I used to tell everyone the only common thread was hats were optional at all 3.....
