( BW)(FL-AIRTRAN-AIRWAYS)(AAI) AirTran Airways Announces New JetConnect Product; New Regional Jet Service Launches November 15th

Business & Travel Editors

ORLANDO, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 26, 2002--AirTran Airways, a subsidiary of AirTran Holdings, Inc. (NYSE:AAI), today announced that the low-fare airline will launch a new regional jet operation, AirTran JetConnect, on November 15. AirTran JetConnect, operated by Air Wisconsin, will fly CRJ regional jets in short-haul markets to and from the airline's hub at Hartsfield Atlanta International Airport.
Operated with the popular 50-seat CRJ regional jets made by Bombardier of Montreal, Quebec, AirTran JetConnect will initially serve several cities from its Atlanta hub - Greensboro, N.C., Pensacola, Fla., and Savannah, Ga. - all of which are currently served by AirTran Airways. In addition, AirTran JetConnect will allow the airline to expand into other short-haul markets as well as increase frequencies in underserved markets -- resulting in a stronger catchment area for AirTran Airways' Atlanta hub.
"Developing a regional partner to feed AirTran Airways has been our goal for some time, and we are pleased to introduce the AirTran JetConnect service to extend our brand of low fares and quality service," stated Robert L. Fornaro, AirTran Airways' president and chief operating officer. "With the launch of AirTran JetConnect, we will also be able to redeploy our Boeing 717s to increase frequencies in longer haul, more profitable markets and facilitate growth in larger markets we do not currently serve. In addition, we look forward to our partnership with Air Wisconsin, a company recognized throughout the industry for its high quality and reliability."
Listed below is the initial pattern of service for AirTran JetConnect:

Excellent reply and posting the article.. but I take one small exception to the reply. "I know its the old ValueJet" - while your statement is historically and factually correct, the statement also has not relevance since AirTran IS a completely different company in all aspects - from top to bottom.

The codeshare in ATL is going fairly well, some minor glitches on the part of AirWis, but our CEO indicated 2 days ago that he is overall happy and there will be more RJ's and routes to come.

We started on 11/15 and I had to see the operation for myself. Ok Ok!! so it wasn't to just see the operation it was more so to get the TDY money. We had two a/c running down there and their was some minor bumps in the road that got ironed out ASAP (WITH THE AIRCRAFT ONLY) Airtran personnel! outstanding, helpful and overall dam nice people. They have their game faces on and ready to play ball when the game starts. Great job citris thanks for the memories.

Yes the operation has started and there have been some problems. There is no need to point fingers to AirWis for all these problems. I believe it's AirTran employees that drive the jet bridges and push the aircraft back. The consequences of their actions have caused AirWis aircraft to be out of service.

You took that one a bit personal did ya:D Hey man it was great seeing you again in MKE I may stop by ORD from time to time to hit you up for a free coffee.

WD:cool:

I have no active part of the code-share operation out of concourse D, and other than seeing the aircraft as we taxi by, have no first hand knowledge of the operation...HOWEVER... in my post I didn't mean to point any fingers, I was only repeating what our CEO had passed along to us. His comments were interpreted by me and was the basis for my response. After re-reading my post I see now how it came across as a slam.. and rather than edit my previous post, I'll simply apologize for the comment. If I was the person in charge that made decisions regarding code-shares... believe me Air Wisconsin was/is my first choice. Glad you all are here.

Now their's a man with integrity!!!

Well put citris well put!!!!

Airwisconsin

Glad to see their up and running. Can anybody tell me how an aspiring airline pilot would apply for employment to airwisconsin in hopes of being based in Atlanta? Don't really want to move the family and all.

Thanks!
