Fat & Ugly Pilots And FAs Need Not Apply...

I fly for a Japanese domestic, so I don't see those extremes in checks. Stick/rudder skills are important. Communication skills are more so, since there are so many expats from a variety of countries and English is the only commonality. CRM = order, do. Lots of 500-hr wonders in Asia. I...

Fat & Ugly Pilots And FAs Need Not Apply...

Mostly attitude. We question authority. Non-Western pilots don't. Training is longer overseas, at least in Asia. There is a bit of provincialism with Americans. "We do it better." That's not necessarily true. We have more experience and are more willing to share and learn from others. The...

737 NG operators, how much fuel do you land with?

Y'all would freak out flying in Asia (Japan). "Min fuel" = 30 minutes. "Emergency Fuel" = 20 minutes, with a "Mayday" call. You do the math. Routinely, if a flight deviates to an alternate, and you fly to the plan, you will land with less than 4000#, which is about 45 min. of fuel.

ALPA proves there is no pilot shortage.

They aren't short enough. They're still operating. Their code share enablers aren't sweating it either, at least publicly. I'm still in Asia. Waiting for an interview at a top tier legacy. Nothing.

    Pilot Age Limit-Japan

Three in my class failed their initial medical. Ages ranged from 42-58. The JCAB physical is tough and the "60" physical is astronaut level. 2 friends just did it.

any National Airlines guys on this board ???

Screw 'em. I was furloughed in 09/2011. Ain't never goin' back.

    Recommendation for Interview United

It's as much, probably more, about your personal skills in the interview. Don't over think it.

    Southwest breaks ground

With less than 400 pilots, all ops moved to KIND. Charter only.

    AA New Hires in Dec

Worked some 2.5 hours on the application. Still not finished. Funniest part? In the "demographics" section, it asked the usual (optional) birth, gender and race questions, but then it asked if I was a fighter pilot? Had to laugh. Probably just checking to see if even read that part of the app.

SWA today like the airline in the book, "Nuts!"?

Konbanwa. Still living the dream. EX-TZ warrior, here. At the end of Oct. '04 ATA filed. FL "stepped in" and offered money to keep the company operating for about 6 months. FL was to get the MDW, DCA, LGA operation/slots. No airplanes. Employees were offered pref. interviews. ATA was...

Need To Move 25-50 Pax from Texas to India

I think a lot of this depends on the pax' expectations. Is this a "first class" type customer? How much convenience/discretion to they want/need?

    UPS Airbus down in Birmingham

"Baro-VNAV." What was the altimeter setting? If it was low, say 29.5something, and they didn't correct for it or their system didn't, it could cause trouble. I used to fly J32's/J41's in there and never used that runway very much at all. Once again, I think this will be combination of factors.

NTSB info on SWA at LGA crash

If the captain was nervous about this airport, he must really hate MDW and the River Vis in DCA. Anyone know when the A/P was disconnected?

    737 oral question help?

Maybe less specific: "panels you'll deal with in SE ops."

    Single-pilot jets?

Work load is also dependent on A/P. If it's cumbersome to use, it will increase your workload. If you don't have one, well that's a whole other animal. Insurance, insurance, insurance. Your confidence level is also dependent on how often you'll fly it. Likewise, but inversely, with how long...

Age limit will increase to 67 by years end.

Ya know, I'd really like to come back to the states to fly for a living, but some people are really making it hard.

    Possible DL hiring in 2014?

Does DAL still have a "once-in-a-lifetime" interview policy? I interviewed back in '98.

    Was that a landing?

No one remembers the speed at which you touched down. They remember how smooth it was.

    Short runway

-Pilots never admit they were wrong.
