Nope. Another harebrained (I'm ashamed to say) typically CX reactive management style scheme gone awry.
Predictably, doomed to fail.
Trying to capitalize on Shiny New Jet syndrome, I'm surprised that anyone was stupid enough to apply at all. "Free training" - all USD150K of it - in exchange...
FWIW, Cathay Pacifics' basings are in complete disarray, with guys employed in the USA, Canada, Australia and others now all illegible for DOUBLE TAXATION - both in Hong Kong and their home countries.
As usual, CX are trying to nickle and dime the issue and are reluctant to accept the principle...
They are referring to IATA Chief Executive Giovanni Bisignani.
Tony T'liar is finally leaving CX like a bad case of herpes. What implications this has for IATA is uncertain, but whatever it is, it won't be good.
He's arrogant, has an utter hatred of pilots, fancies himself as a rock star...
I've a colleague who commutes to work in one. Are you up in the Northwest, by any chance? He's on Saltspring Island (near Vancouver BC), 777 CN with CX.
Think, mate. Put your brain into gear before you start your PC.
I have EVERY airbus from the A310 to the A340-600 on my licence, "typed". PIC. Lots and lots of hours. I speak from experience. Why on earth would I say it was cr@p if I hadn't flown it?
If it makes you feel better...

The -800Fs' are replacements for the BCFs' (which will be sold off or incorporated into existing JVs')
The US based F drivers, given the option to transfer to the pax fleet after a 4 year fleet freeze, will be allowed to bid the 777 (or A350) and/or HKG domicile, but many will be refused due to...
CX's management style is 100% reactive. When they're short of experienced crew, they'll hire DEFO's (maybe even DEC's). It's happened more than a few times in my 20+ years here.
They won't remove the reference to DEFO on the website until the day before they decide they need DEFO's...
Mall of the Americas - in 110 degree heat? Why ski indoors (I've been there, by the way. It's a bunny slope at best) when the best skiing is in Aspen, Telluride or Whistler? Buildings, schmuildings. Seen one, seen 'em all.
What EK want is a 300% + increase in seats (for starters) and THEN...
True - but LHR, LGW, CDG & FRA all destinations in themselves, not transit stops - the essence of the argument in the AC/EK dispute.
Couldn't agree more.
I'll reiterate - I'm no fan of AC, but I do believe in fair play.
I'm no expert on this, but Canadas' denial of unfettered access to Canadian cities by EK is a blow to their N American plans. The Canadian government justifies the denial on the grounds that the Emirate is not a destination but a transit point, and EK and others are simply flooding the market...

Well said.
I know who this recruitment is for.
Domiciled Shanghai with minimum time off, minimum benefits (read NONE), flying BCF's on the back of the clock.
The TC's are somewhere south of Jade cargo.
IMHO you would be better off (certainly healthier) in your CRJ in CLT, DFW or...

FYI we have about 300 S/O's (second officers) who been designated eaters for three, sometimes four years now. They already have CX in court for breach of contract issues regarding pay and benefits resulting from the last batch of DEFO hires. Word on the street is that the S/O's will...
CX are not hiring at present.
However, (bearing in mind that CX peg their "competitive minimums" on who's out there) I would say that TODAY you would have a shot with about 5000TT, Multi/IFR (of course) and command time exceeding 2000 hrs on anything bigger than a CRJ
We fly 2 man crew on...

You're welcome. I have always endeavored to tell it the way it is here - no bells or whistles and without the shiny new jet enthusiasm of others. It's a job - it used to be an outstanding job. As they say out here "horses for courses".*
