Are you being facetious or are you serious? Honest question. Maybe I am mistaken, but is this the same company that kicked their pilots out of their hotels and left them stranded overseas, including Angola where they needed to be escorted by gaurds all the time due to it not being a very safe place?

Do you mean when the pilots went on strike?

I agree with CCdiscoB. Great place to work, best job I ever had, not for everybody, etc., etc. Honest answer.

During our strike/lockout, crewmembers were left to fend for themselves in, among other places, Angola and Communist China. If you're scared you're going to get stranded in some third world country, don't apply. I feared for my life more when I flew in and out of Detroit City Airport than Luanda, Angola. Besides, it'll probably be another 3 years before anything like that happens again.
P.S.
I asked one of the guys that got stuck in Angola if he was scared and he said no.

How would the current situation with North American potentially impact future hiring? Will the two sides be merged at some point? Any estimates on when that might happen?

Also, what is the "typical" roster for a newhire on reserve? How many days away can one expect as a newhire per month (on average)?

Lastly, does your location impact where you will likely fly? For example, if you live in California, will you more than likely fly the Asian trips? If you live on the East Coast, will you fly more European and Middle East trips?

Can a World new hire keep his job, if the military scales down their presence in Iraq?

As of July everyone will get at least 12 Hard Days Off/month (6 consecutive, maybe all 12.) Open flyers (our reserves) get only 12. There was one month when I had only one 8 day trip. Expect to be in training for about 6 months (on the upside, guarantee kicks in after the type ride, not IOE, and the type ride happens within the usual 6-8 weeks. The rest is waiting for IOE.)

You bid either IAD or LAX based on your seniority. Your domicile determines where you fly. But an open flyer can wind up anywhere.

This is a good company to work for. I came from a regional and a LCC, and this place is most definitely neither of the above. 4-star hotels (mostly,) limos, catering on every flight (including repositioning/MX flights.)

Let's hope it lasts.
