Which is faster?

Well. I didn't say who I agreed with, but there seems to be some disagreement.

According to my Aerodynamics for Naval Aviators GV is precisely correct.

In the his glide example airspeed varied so that the both aircraft could maintain LD max.

In his fixed speed example (M0.75) the heavier aircraft is much closer to LD max than the lighter one for the same reason that gliders carry water ballast in competitions.
