The way they explained to me at Verizon Wireless was simple - night minutes are based on night time at your current location regardless where your phone is based.

For example, my phone is based in Hawaii. If I make a call from New York, they consider day and night time based on the time of day at the place you are making your call from, so even though it may be night in Hawaii, I'm still gonna be charged DAY minutes since I'm placing a call from New York.
 
Same deal with Sprint PCS. I have a Westchester County, NY phone # so the family can call making a local call, my billing address is in the Midwest...but wherever the phone is at the time I make or receive a call determines if it's night or day for billing purposes.

a call to AT&T tech support said that was changed about a year ago...

so my little plan no longer works.

drat.

and I would have gotten away with it too ... if it weren't for those meddling kids.
