Although I thought TSP was a great deal while on active duty, I moved the entire sum out of their control shortly after retirement. I am happy I did it.

Any reason to put it into a TSP instead of a regular mutual fund? I'm currently putting all of my savings into a Roth IRA and mutual funds.

The TSP is only useful after you have maxed out your roth. If you are maxing our your Roth IRA, then the tsp is a pretty good bet.

Yes... as Vandal said, do your ROth first... but the TSP provides a tax relief for you that your mutual funds (outside of a Roth/Traditional IRA) doesn't.

Oh by the way... the one broken thing about the TSP, for the military, is that they don't have any sort of match for contributions. This is complete BS, because they DO match for civilian government employees when they contribute to their TSPs. I have always been extremely confused and upset on this double standard.
