Saint Louis, MO – [FONT=Arial,Arial][FONT=Arial,Arial]Trans States Holdings (TSH) and Mitsubishi Aircraft Corporation in Tokyo, Japan has announced they have finalized and executed the Definitive Purchase Agreement for 100 new generation Mitsubishi Regional Jets (MRJ). The agreement includes 50 firm orders with an additional 50 options, with the first deliveries on schedule for delivery in mid 2014. "We are very proud to add Mitsubishi Regional Jet and the Mitsubishi Aircraft Corporation to the family of superior Regional aircraft we operate and the manufacturers we work with today," said Trans States Holdings President Richard A. Leach. "We are excited to reinforce our commitment to the MRJ with the signing of our Definitive Agreement. We believe that the MRJ is a game-changing regional jet that takes into account environmental issues, as well as passenger and airline needs. The MRJs will reduce fuel consumption, noise and NOx emissions, and along with their superior performance, will offer opportunities and savings on operating costs. Along with these features, the aircraft will also have the largest cabin in the regional jet market with attention to every detail ensuring high quality and passenger comfort. The MRJ is the complete package and we are proud to be the launch customer outside of Japan." In addition, TSH is announcing that it has executed an exclusive 12-year maintenance contract with Pratt & Whitney for 100 firm PurePower PW1200G engines, and up to an additional 100 engines as options are executed for the MRJ aircraft. TSH will be the first airline to implement this new leap forward in technology for Regional Aircraft performance and the MRJ will be the greenest regional on the market in regards to noise and emissions. "We believe that the MRJ with its incredibly fuel efficient next generation Pratt & Whitney "PurePower" geared-turbofan engines, will address the vital needs of the environment, as well as the critical needs of our passengers and airline operations," said Leach. The Letter of Intent (LOI), signed on October 2, 2009, was the first step in working with Mitsubishi on the development, manufacturing and certification process of the aircraft. The Trans States Holding Company has not made a final decision on which of its three wholly owned airline subsidiaries will operate this aircraft. Over the coming months, Trans States Holdings will focus it efforts on meeting with prospective airline partners, providing information and having discussions on how this new aircraft could be employed. "The new MRJs will give us an edge in the industry, and create unique opportunities for our company," said Leach. "We believe by working with our employees and Mitsubishi, we will be able to make compelling and winning offers, helping us create value for our partner airlines and opportunities for ourselves, while securing our company’s future and growth for years to come. We will periodically update you on this exciting program as events occur in the coming months.

And what is the difference between the MRJ and the E170/190? Looks like an exact copy

The new PW engines should make it much more fuel efficent.

Do what with them is the big question. They will either find a home for them with one of the legacys or simply sell off the slots.

If this part's true, it'll be a huge difference:

Moreover, the [new seat] fabric disperses body pressure and perspiration, which will offer better comfort for passengers.
Embraer has a knack for making the most uncomfortable airline seats on the planet. If Mitsubishi can do better, that's a good thing!

I'm curios to see the fuel efficiency as the quoted range was not really impressive for a jet aircraft.

The standard version has a range of 860 to 920nm
and the Long Range is 1820 to 1860.

Pssh..
Didn't TransStates do this almost a year ago? What's the difference between this release and the order they made last year?

Last year was just a LOI (Letter of Intent),essentially saying "we intend to commit to buy 50 of these things, but we're not giving you any money yet". Today they announced they actually inked the deal for 50 firm orders...

It has a smaller cross section as the baggage will be in the rear as opposed to beneath. I think between the engines and the aerodynamics the MRJ can be very competitive against the ERJ.

This whole thing is a giant sham. Trans States holdings does not have $4B cash or credit! They won't even pay TSA an extra 5 bucks an hour. This thing just stinks to high heaven.
