US FAA sticks with $10.2 mln fine against Southwest

WASHINGTON, Aug 15 (Reuters) - Southwest Airlines Co (LUV.N: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) has failed to convince the U.S. government to reduce a $10.2 million fine proposed for alleged safety violations, the Federal Aviation Administration said on Friday.

The agency sent a letter to the carrier earlier this week saying the civil penalty would remain at the proposed amount, an FAA spokeswoman said.

The FAA leveled the fine this past spring for alleged maintenance violations. Southwest sought to lower the penalty in meetings with FAA officials.

The FAA on Thursday proposed a $7.1 million fine against American Airlines, a unit of AMR Corp (AMR.N: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz), for alleged safety violations. American called the penalty excessive. (Reporting by John Crawley; editing by Carol Bishopric)

That's good.

So SWA was supposedly in bed with the FAA.

How much was the FAA fined?

Funny

Funny how no SWA barnies have much to say. Any time there's negative publicity, in any form, It gets pushed way down. They can knowingly fly broken airplanes, kill a kid in Chicago... But, Shhhhh, don't tell anybody. Ever notice that?

Baby killers?

Wow

I would expect more from an A-10 driver.

Who do you work for big boy!

I would expect an A-10 driver to try to steal my booze and diddle my wife...and kill things and blow stuff up.

Can't expect much more of them than that. Then again...can't expect much more than that from any fighter pilot...

Everyone gets there turn in the barrel with the FAA. It was SWA and AAs turn this time...
