The testers use the enroute part
Don't know why you wouldn't

AA has us using Jepp TC Pro, not FD, due to certain geographical areas in the world AA operates in that Jepp wasn't ready to upload into FD. As such, we use TC for now, and TC does not have the enroute electronic or 10-1 charts, so we have to carry those. We're told we'll be switching to FD end of this year or next year. So you see, SW bubbas, we at AA can be just as much in the dark ages ?

That said, the iPad has been absolutely awesome. You guys are gonna love em. Just hope we can find a better iPad holder then those cumbersome Ram mounts.

That's good info aa. And sounds like it was on jepp's end not yours.

Can't wait til they flip the switch- should be in may

You do not have to buy a plan
You just need the cell version for the GPS that doesn't come with the wifi version

So what happens if you drop your ipad? Does the company give you another 500 bucks? Because in fact the ram mounts do fall off the window.

Actually, it's more than $500, since we have to have the 32G cellular version. And yes, they will, according to the MOU between the company and union.

The company provides cases to individual pilots, and mounts in each plane, and self-insures the iPads without liability to the individual pilot. If it gets broken or stolen, or otherwise fails, the company will pay have it fixed or replaced, and provide a loaner in the meanwhile. The only thing the pilot is liable for, is if he or she actually loses it. Then you get to buy a new one out of your pocket.

It seems a pretty reasonable policy to me.
