This is an announcement about SWA picking a system for "talent optimization" which is a fancy way of saying finding and hiring SWA employees including pilots. This is probably the on-line system we have been talking about. The on-line system may be coming sooner than previously expected.
 
Very interesting article

I wonder why it would be an advantage to process a group of pilots from a particular "geographic" area. That's the first time I've ever heard of a selection process based on where you live.

Will this mean SWA recruiting road shows?
 
When you hire mechanics, reservations agents, ground ops people, and so forth, location matters a lot. They generally work pretty close to where they live, and SWA does do "roadshows" for that sort of hiring. I think the comments about geography are based more on that sort of hiring, and apply much less to the pilots and F/A's who have different requirements & options with regard to geography.

The article isn't really clear on this point, but I think that's what they're referring to.
