Some trains have seat assignments but never the subways given the short amount of time they spend at each terminal. That is quite analogous to the way Southwest operates. However, Southwest is quite an adaptive company and if they thought that would improve their service and overall mission, they'd do it in a heart beat.
You could send Herb a nasty e-mail and be featured in the next edition of Nuts! Just remember to ask for a job at some point in the e-mail though.
