Actually, yes...I did...graduated Fall 98.

I remember one really long month at ACA with a 300hr wonder who did nothing but bitch about how he got screwed by having to fly the J41. He felt he deserved to fly the CRJ since he had all of that Riddle "experience". And of course...he couldn't fly the J41 worth a sh*t. Tool.

I seriously doubt that. Minimum would be 1000/200 for any regional for a long time.

And where are they going to find all these 1000 hour plus pilots? They don't exist! They may be able to find some for a while but by next year, we will be back to 500 hours or less. Because as we all know, in this country, management won't pay higher salaries to attract labor. That process is only used to attract management types.

They are all over the corporate/charter world. They will come to the airlines if the pay is high enough.

This type of crap is my main complaint... And there are many "Empty Nipples" (Thanks-Gen-that is pretty good!) like this guy. Intolerable.

Reminds me of some sage advice I saw on one of those police reality shows on time: Some brand new cop asked his crusty old partner what he should do to learn the ropes. The old crusty guy said-"for the first year, just shut up and listen. You don't know enough to have an opinion yet, so we don't care what you have to say."

-If ERAU only had a class in how to "shut up and listen," their guys would be far more appreciated.

One emry dribble I was flying with was reading Nuts. In public and on the job too, how deuchebagy can you get? One other guy keeps saying that his "friends" will get him into Fedex any day now.

THERE IS NO PILOT SHORTAGE.

THERE WILL BE NO PILOT SHORTAGE.

What there *might* be in the future is a shortage of qualified (very loosely defined as 1000hr+) pilots willing to work for regional airline compensation & lifestyle - and we've already seen such a thing in the last few years.

NetJets, FlexJet, CitationAir, Avantair, etc. all had no problem finding & hiring pilots with well over 1000tt (or in the cast of the first three, over 2500tt) during the 2005-2008 hiring boom, while some regional airlines were scraping the bottom of the 300hr barrel just to fill classes.

Why? Compensation & lifestyle.

If regional airlines would raise first year guarantee pay to $36k, make second year pay $42k, and third year pay $45k then their pay would be similar to Avantair and I'd bet they wouldn't have any trouble pulling experienced pilots from places like AirNet, CAS, Key Lime, and some charter/corporate operators...not to mention lateral moves from other regionals.

That's a good book about business management, not just pilot porn like AOPA and Plane&Pilot.

New student starts are down everywhere. I know of more than a couple flight schools that have closed their doors.

I don't believe they have bridge programs there anymore, not in the past 5 years since ACA/IndyAir. I would recommend going to a college of your choice and doing an intership with companies you're interested in, regardless of wheter or not you decide to fly.
