Saw this on airliners.net

Earlier today Mesa Airlines informed their employees that they will discontinue passenger service and ground
handling operations in PHX, effective April 6. Piedmont Airlines, a wholly owned subsidiary of US Airways, will
assume the PHX US Airways Express passenger service and ground handling operations.

Piedmont will extend job offers to approximately 350 Mesa employees in good standing. The remaining 13 field stations with direct US Airways Express service from PHX will participate in a competitive bid process, which will include Piedmont, to determine who will handle passenger service and ground operations. All stations will transition from Mesa to the new handler by June 2011.

With this move Piedmont will now manage US Airways Express passenger service and ground handling operations in all three hubs; CLT, PHL and PHX.

Dont worry the flow-thru to PDT Ground is right around the corner. We are very close to the end of negotiations on it. Just hang tight.

Nothing new they (US Air) used to do this all the time on the east coast before 911(and after) with the ground handling/gate employees. It seemed like every 3 months stations like Reading, PA (RDG), Lancaster, PA and IPT (among others) would shift between Mesa, Allegheny, Piedmont, Colgan, CC Air, CHQ, TSA, Commutair management/ownership. However it was always the same employees.

Every time these poor employees would get to a pay increase the station would change and the new company would offer them the same job starting over at newhire pay/bennies.

I know at RDG agent that went from Allegheny to Mesa to Colgan (or TSA) back to Allegheny then to Mesa again within 8 years before the station closed.

im still friends with alot of the YV gate crews from when I was PHX based...they are good people, and hopefully they will recieve better treatment from Piedmont than they got under JO.
