Starting in May, Delta Airlines will once again provide a mainline flight to Augusta Regional Airport.
Delta currently offers 10 regional jet flights from Augusta Regional to Atlanta through its partner Atlantic Southeast Airlines, according to a news release.
A 124-seat Airbus A319 will be used for the flight, which will depart Augusta at 7:05 a.m. and return at 8:53 p.m., according to the release.
One of the smaller jets will be pulled from the lineup, leaving nine regional jets that seat 50 passengers and pushing the total number of daily seats to Atlanta up to 574.
“This is quite an endorsement for Augusta by Delta at a time when mainline service is being withdrawn from most small and many mid-sized markets, said Gary LeTellier, Augusta Regional’s executive director.
Although Delta flies into Augusta directly during the week of the Masters Tournament due to increased traffic, it has not maintained daily service since 2000.

Oh, and starting soon mainline will be parking on Concourse C in ATL. Hopefully they start hiring soon too!

A certain chief pilot will be happy to hear this.

Not really; he won't be able to jump into the left seat of the 319 with his shorts and t-shirt on and tell the Captain: "I'll take this one."

Not really, but that's not too far-off from the truth.

Just replace shorts and t-shirt with jeans and polo shirt and it's exactly what happens.

Yes, he really has done that. Scheduling told him that is a no-no because of duty-time limitations. So, now he actually has to fly the line occasionally to get current than just doing it when he commutes to/from work.

Delta comes and goes out of AGS. Always have and always will; so does ASA. The 737 parking ticks on the taxi lines have been there since they were painted. They added the DC 9 because the city said it was required. Delta hiring? Not any time soon. They are trying to maximize their staffing as well.
