Hi Everyone,

I'm facing the need to change careers, and would like some information. My desire is to stay in aviation if at all possible; but after many years in airline dispatch, I find myself on the outside of the business, and now obviously isn't the best time to get back in...pay is crap and job security is nil.
I'm too old for ATC; I don't have a CTO (can't really afford the time/money to go to school, with a family to feed), and don't really know how good the contract tower deal is anyway.
So, a guy tells me that the AFSS jobs at Lockheed Martin would be a great fit for my background, and he says they pay well...but I'm not sure specifically what they do. Are they similar to the old Flight Service Stations I visited in the late '70s when I was working on my PPL? I know they've been working through some problems during the transition from the FAA, but has that been mostly resolved by now? Any first- or second-hand info is appreciated.
