I haven't had any problems going on NW. I went from DTW or MSP to AMS and then with ZED or ID tickets on from there. It is for free to leave the US and then on the way back from AMS you have to go to the ticket office and pay the taxes to get on to the jumpseat back to the states. The KLM gateagents in AMS are great and they know what you are talking about when asking for the jumpseat. If they look at you funny when you say "jumpseat", call it the "XCM" (cockpit jumpseat)

holy cow. come back via frankfurt or something. i've riden UAL to paris and frankfurt with no problem. coming out of frankfurt was easy, they knew what the deal was and there were no crazy taxes.
