I understand that the January class at Alaska has been postponed to March. The word is there has been some kind of reallocation of assets and they don't need any MD-80 pilots. I guess all of January was going to the 80. The postponed class will be all 737. Anybody in the know out there think this is just the beginning of bad news or is it just what they say it is? I know it doesn't seem like much but this is how bad things start.

Hiring through 03

This is news to me... but I don't hang out at the training center much...
Last news from the union is that hiring will continue, probably through 03.
The company is still planning on 6% to 8% growth this year and next.
The company kept some MD's that they were planning on sending to the desert this year. The lease rates were so low that they got the airplanes for virtually free.
There are some big retirement numbers coming up in the next few years. I don't see them closing the school house doors any time soon.
Good luck.

nope...

Just had a good friend get assigned to an APRIL class. All the others are full up. They may have done something with the Jan class, but the ones after are still on schedule, as the ones before.
