I am currently reading "Hard Landings" by Petzinger,Jr., What an eye opener!!! This book ought to be required reading for anyone who wants to persue a career in aviation. What are your thoughts on the book, its contents and main "characters" such as Lorenzo!!! You know this guy was caught "fixing" an election in college and lied about it...makes you wonder what he did to the airline we don't know about!!!!

Read it 4 years ago but...

It doesn't matter how many pilots read this, or any other book on airline history.

Pilots are too stupid to build on past mistakes and would rather repeat them.

Sincerely,

B. Franklin

I've been saying exactly that ever since I first read the book in 1998. Personally, I re-read it once a year just to refresh myself on what I might have forgotten recently!

whos the author???

i'm currently reading hard landings and i think it paints both management and labor as the bad guys. keep in mind that the book is written about the mgmt, however the whole eastern debacle with the machinists shows labor is not out of the crosshairs.

both parties are usually guilty of something.

Well said! This is a sad but true fact. Extremely insightful book though.
