Heard a rumor that CHQ announced 60 furloughs today??!!!

Is there any truth to this rumor and, if so, what is the driver for the furloughs?

Is there a Press Release or anything about this? Just talked to a friend of mine who flies for CHQ and he didn't know anything about it.

Nothing has been announced officially. This is all scuttlebutt for now.

Tit for tat. It is expected. Our CEO complained that we lost the financing on three USAirways jets. This could be related.

OTOH, with all the hiring going on, I think we are seeing a pool of qualified F/Os for Republic. "You are furloughed from CHQ. You can take your chances there or come to Republic next week. What do you prefer?"

BAMMO!

CHQ is training people for its own demise.

Such a lovely industry we have here.

Tentative Confirmation

Wayne Heller informed the (June 30) Indoc class today of the furlough.

60 pilots including the current class but he has enough confidence in their ability to resolve issues that the class is continuing training through simulator check rides. As of now, they will not continue to IOE but Heller expects to recall by October or November.

Haven't seen a press release but he said the announcement would be made today.

Not sure how many actual pilots on the line will be touched by this as there have been large classes in the last few months and guys from the beginning of May are just now finishing IOE.

Mr. Heller has been very up-front with this crop of new hires and expressed sincere regret for the situation. As a note, several of the class members are already sitting on one or two other furloughs and even they appreciated the way this was handled.

Pilot Furlough Displacement & Leave Notice Memo

OPS 03-078

July 9, 2003

Due to recent labor developments the Company has lost financing commitments for current aircraft deliveries. This event was not contemplated as we implemented our staff and training requirements. Since it is highly unlikely that we will be able to find alternatives in the near term, the Company now finds itself with a substantial number of excess crew members. Accordingly, and with regret, we will have to make adjustments to target staffing levels resulting in furloughs as soon as July 31, 2003.

Here is the expected breakdown of Furloughs and Displacements:

Furloughs effective July 31, 2003 – 26
Furloughs effective August 31, 2003 – 36
Total Furloughs- 62

Total Displacements:

Capt breakdown:
19 Downgrades to First Officer
6 145 Captain Positions to 135/140 Captain Positions
6 Base Moves
The expected Base changes are:
4 from IND, 4 from LGA and 4 from PHL
2 to BUF, 4 to GSO and 6 to MCO

First Officer breakdown:

A minimum of 12 base moves and a further undetermined number of moves due to Captain downgrades.

In accordance with Paragraph G of Article 11 – Reduction in Force of the collective bargaining agreement between the Company and your union the company is soliciting requests for Unpaid Leaves of Absence by the Pilot Group.

Leaves will be granted to those Pilots who’s leave would prevent the Furlough or Involuntary Displacement of another Pilot.

Please feel free to contact Kathy Wooldridge at 317-484-6003 or Lisa Cody 317-484-6002 with any questions you might have concerning your benefits.

Sincerely,

Bart Wooldridge

@#$$$!!!!! Management!

Crewsked is still offering OT for F/Os. Rotten Bastards. Prayers for the 62 on the bottom and your families, I hope I'm not next.

Lose financing for 3 airplanes and cut 62 pilots- sounds like more pressure to scare the pilots into submission. I don't work for CHQ, but I am at a "regional" airline and I am proud of every pilot group that has the balls to stand up to management for fair wages and rules or at least not setting the bar lower than it has been going recently. While I would prefer to fly for the big boys, that is more and more unlikely as the industry evolves so if I'm stuck where I'm at for a long time, if not my entire career, then more pilots, like those at CHQ, have to stand their ground. In my humble opinion, I believe the CHQ pilots can get a fair contract and stop Republic as long as they stand tough. I don't believe that management can afford to let them go on strike and will eventually give in- after all it's a business and they stand to lose a lot more if there is a strike than if they just do the right thing by the pilot group. Good luck guys and girls who are furloughed, I hope you are back soon and I hope you all stay strong.

why finish the sim checks?

Just curious--why finish up the sims through the checkride unless you were positive they'd be back soon? Isn't there a requirement to get 100 hours in 120 days (extendable to 150) after the check ride or is that just if you are new to type?

Wow, I think that 3 of the new indoc students are also former DCA instructors. Just saw that in the DCA newsletter a friend of mine that still goes there got. Talk about a buzz-kill! Flying high after starting indoc finally after a yead of instructing (or whatever the other indoc trainees did too!) and while your training, learn you back out on the 'street'! That's a feeling that must absolutely suck!
