What is the longevity of Dispatchers at SkyWest?
How many total in department? How many over 5 years? How many over 10 years? How many over 15 years? Thanks in advance!

FWIW...

I was there from 2004-2006. The company is GREAT, the benefits are OK, but man does SGU suck. It is growing however. There are lots of guys there that have been working there for a long time. Then there are the guys that stay six months.

When I left, there were like 80-85 in the dept., including management.

GREAT group of people there.

Like I said, SGU sucks, but everything else gets a big thumbs up from me.

What are the duties of flight coordinators at SkyWest?

They're just 'clerks'.

LOL - just kidding.

The SYSTEM coordinators are responsible for coordination of the systems aircraft (and flights assigned or swapped to that aircraft) with the crews (crew support), stations (customer service, maintenance), and the dispatchers.

Swaps and reflows are actually done by the system coordinators here. That allows us dispatchers to pay attention to the safety of our assigned flilghts rather than trying to piece together the puzzles (schedules) given us by United and Delta and Midwest.

Clerks, eh? Well, I guess the tagline does sum up certain days.

The "systems" are broken down by a sort of hodge-podge of Hub/Equipment/Codeshare.
  • ORD CRJ-200's (UAX)
  • DEN/LAX/SFO CRJ-200's (UAX)
  • DEN/LAX/SFO CRJ-700's (UAX)
  • ORD CRJ-700's (UAX)
  • MKE (YXC)
  • LAX/SFO/PDX EMB-120's (UAX)
  • SLC CRJ-200's (DLC)
  • ATL/SLC CRJ-700's/CRJ-900's/EMB-120's (DLC)
Each system coordinator is responsible for keeping the system going...delaying lines, buying time for maintenance issues, strategic cancels, reflows, etc. Also, lots of swapping to keep it all running as close to on-time as possible.

Probably the most important part, the coordinators "run point"...so to speak...by taking the constant stream of information from the dispatchers, MX controllers, pilots, stations, ATC, etc, and making sure the right people get the right information.

System controllers=system hub/coordinator/controller manager of some sort. Responsible for running a smooth operation with the a/c and hub assigned to them. When they are not busy, the company is making money. When the coordinator is busy, usually the performance numbers are going down thus profit, but it's their job to communicate with the correct people (dispatchers, mx cntrl, hub and outstation ops personel, crew support, crew members and whoever else) to effectively get the operation back on track so we can all reap the rewards of our quarterly bonuses. They are decision makers who promptly have to utilze the resources and tools at their disposal to successfully and efficiently put the puzzle back together again during IROP conditions. EDCT, EDCT, EDCT, ring-ring-ring, swap, swap, swap, delay, delay, delay, cancel, cancel, cancel, ring-ring-ring, divert, divert, divert. Hmm, anything else Walter?
Oh, YEAAAH!!! Basically they're a bunch of irrelevant clowns who troll the internet all day while eating donuts.
