Originally asked this in another thread, but for those who have been hired on at Delta and started class when did you find out domicile and aircraft? Thanks.

also any other information that would be beneficial for other new hires please don't hesitate to offer.:)

They tell you on the first day of class. My class was March 19th and we all got the md88 in NYC.

You may get awarded something in class, but then bid and get awarded something else. Unfortunately you will still have to complete training on the first thing you were awarded, like the MD88 in NYC. We have recently had a couple newhires bid and were awarded 767, one on the INTL category at JFK, and the other the domestic 757/767 in ATL. They will most likely go ahead with the MD88 training, go through IOE, and a couple months later go back to ATL and get trained on the 757/767. We will be having more bids in the near future for our ex TWA (AA) 757s that are coming in July (2 a month for a total of 13 planes, initially). Expect a bid every couple months. And, you can also bid a different base for the same equipment during those bids----for example you can bid ATL MD88 from NYC MD88 and it would not increase any seat hold. A seat hold is 2 years for anything that you get that YOU BID FOR. If you are assigned MD88 NYC for your initial bid, then you can bid off of it immediately on the next bid. If in training there are some 738 slots and you try to get SLC 738 and get it, then you get a 2 year seat hold. Clear as mud.

Is it correct that the class bids on the openings and then is assigned what they can hold.

Why? That seems like a huge waste of money for training.

Well, in previous hiring cycles a hew hire would normally not be able to get into a heavy so quickly. We only have initial qualification programs setup for the narrow-bodies, so thats why you are hired into those first, then you can go where you want if you can hold it.

They are developing a 767 syllabus for new hires now, since vacancies are not being filled by the pilots we currently have.
