I am not sure what the word qualified means? I think we ALL have our own definition based on many factors and life experiences.
So in this situation, the only definition of 'qualified' that matters is the company doing the hiring.
We can go back and forth and site why someone is more or less qualified.....but the minimums are 1200/1000....so that equals qualified at least for flying time.
Competative? most likely not, but many factors are used ( I heard that flight time is only a one portion of the many factors they use to select for an interview) ,and some people are not going to agree with them.
I think a 4 year degree should be a must, others would disagree...what matters though, is what the company thinks and wants, not the candidates seeking interviews.
Us throwing stones at each other for perceived or real instances of favoritisim gets us nowhere, except angry. Life is too short for stuff like that.
There are many pilots with zero 121 PIC time ( example :countless AE FOs whos lack of upgrade is no fault of their own ) who are very qualified, and there are pilots with 5000+ 121 PIC and have no buisness being in an airplane, let alone flying other people around.....and vise versa.
There are many examples on both sides of this argument, it could be never ending...... however in the end,the reality of the situation is Delta is the one who deceides who is the best fit for them at that particular time.
