Below is some of the text of the announcement. It is also interesting to note that very recently, the NMB had proffered binding arbitration to both sides. The pilots immediately ACCEPTED, shocking management. The 30th was also the deadline for the company to respond to the NMB on the profer.
Coincidentally, Champion Air is furloughing 35 or 36 pilots effectives September 1st. They have a total of approx. 180 pilots and operate under Part 121 supplemental rules as the largest dedicated charter airline in the U.S. operating B-727 aircraft. The airlines primary business is vacation/leisure travel wholesalers, sports teams, and DOD charters.

Champion VARS Message for Friday, August 30, 2002

Good afternoon fellow pilots, this is ---- ----- with a VARS update for Friday, August 30th.

I want to report today that we have reached a tentative agreement on a first labor contract with Champion Air management. I also want to report that your MEC has unanimously voted to endorse it. Some terms of the agreement include a 30-month duration, and pay raises of three percent on the date of signing for captains and first officers, ten percent for second officers, three percent on the one-year anniversary date, and four percent at the two-year point for all crewmembers. Additionally, it contains improved work rules and job security. Most importantly, with your ratification vote in favor of this tentative agreement, we will have our first legally-binding contract - the foundation on which we will build all future contracts.
