What would be the most advantageous CE type to have? Have a buddy that is getting out of the airlines but wants a type for future contract/job opportunities. Found a CE-525 for 12,000 done in the A/C. Sound right & Good type to have? Where is the best place to do this with cost in mind? Just trying to put some numbers together.

Thanks in advance.

"Getting out of the airlines" and investing 12k into a type rating for a plane your buddy has never flown, in this of all job markets, doesn't really seem like the best idea to me. Especially when one considers almost all insurance underwriters will want 12-month SIMULATOR training for a contract pilot to act as PIC.

That said, there are a lot of existing CJ-series airplanes with four models using it currently in production, so I can't imagine it being a bad rating to have...although it'd be a waste of money to get a CE-525 type instead of the CE-525S.

CE525 or CE500 is by far the most 'common' type rating and allows for the most aircraft and there are tons of 500/525 series aircraft out there.

The CE525 is any CJ Series aircraft (CE525(S) is the Single Pilot Version). CJ, CJ1, CJ1+, CJ2, CJ2+, CJ3 and hopefully the CJ4.

CE500 is the 500, 501, 550, 550B and probably a few other's....

Yes, the CJ4 falls under the CE525/525S type ratings.

Save your money......cant think of a bigger waste of cash than buying a type rating hoping to line up work....

At least one major underwriter won't accept pilots who attended PrestoSim for a CE500 Initial type as a named or OPW PIC...even though PrestoSim will argue with you up and down about how they're "approved by all major insurance companies".

The same underwriter will, however, accept PrestoSim for CE500 recurrent...

Is this official yet? I know a few months ago they were still debating it but it seemed like it was going to work out under the CE525 type...
