What are some reputable insurance companies? We are looking at buying a Cherokee 160 or 180 and wanted to get some quotes.

Thanks,
Nick

Falcon insured our 300 series Cessna and was great to work with. We used the guys down in FL.

Aviation insurance

There are only 3 or so companies who write aviation insurance; I believe AVEMCO (as long as you don't lease to a flight school), Great American and AIG Aviation.

Falcon seems like a good choice; they underwrite the CFI insurance plan for NAFI. Also might try AOPA's agency, who writes for AIG, and allegedly gives a discount on policies.

Another suggestion - ask a couple of owners at your local airport who they have their insurance through. Never hurts to get a quote from a local agent as well.

Many Companies...

There are a ton of aviation insurance companies out there right now however, there are only 7 companies writing insurance. Most all companies are brokers. The only direct writer is Avemco. Your best bet is to call an aviation specialist not your local broker who also does your house or auto. These people just dont know the aviation market, its a very specialized area and you need all the advise possible. One good company that I know of is NationAir Insurance Agencies, Inc. at nationair.com

Hope this helps!

Aviation insurance

I had a policy with AVEMCO, and thought it treated me right.

Make sure that the liability section of the policy provides a legal defense for you. No kidding! Hopefully, you would never need it - but, you never know . . . .
