This is for any pilot at ASA, or anyone who's been through an ASA interview and new-hire job application process.

As I understand, there's no medical exam at ASA (there isn't one for any regional except Eagle, and maybe one more).

I'm sure ASA accepts limitations on the first class medical, like "Holder shall wear corrective lenses." Is that correct? I mean, it is okay to have glasses and/or contact lenses?

My main question is, can and will ASA accept waivers, and/or SODAs?

First waivers, do they accept them for the first class medical?

Second, SODAS... do they accept SODAS for the first class medical?

What do they ask on the application?

Any help appreciated, thank you guys !

The ASA medical exam usually takes place during the first six months of employment.

That's when you realize you are getting daily prostate exams from schedueling.

My sim partner had a SODA for color vision and wore contacts/glasses when we went through training. He's still here so I guess it's OK.

1. yes.
2. yes. You must tell them about your SODA. The last guy that didn't put it on his app was fired for lying. The company didn't even know what a SODA was so they fired him thinking it was a waiver. ALPA got his job back and back pay.

Tell Danny Robertson that you have a SODA!

Here's a question about interviews and SODA/waivers.

Obviously, you have to put on your airline pilot application that you have a SODA or waiver. But, are they allowed to bring that up during the interview, and question you about it ? Isn't it one of those touchy issues that some laws don't let you talk about until after issued conditional employment?

I can't confirm this, but I had heard that someone rejected for employment from an airline (not sure which one) because he had a soda (can't remember for what) and sued and won since he had demonstrated an ability to perform the job safely, as per the FAA soda. Basically came down to discrimination as laid out in the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Soda?

OK, I give, what does SODA stand for. Obviously, I am lucky that I don't know what it is.

I do know what a soda is, does that count?

Thanks

ex...color vision---you cant pass your AME's "normal" color vision test, but a you can pass an alternate test (one he may not have), but administered by lets say an Opthamolagist (sp?). Your AME will accept this documentation, because he is not a color vision specicialist...and then he will submit this documentation to the FAA. They review it, and will 99.9% of the time issue you a 1st class with a SODA on it.
