I am trying to figure out some of the differences between UAL and CAL pilot contracts. If anyone has a current UAL pilot contract could you PM me. Specifically I am trying to determine how LTD pilots are treated at UAL vs at CAL. (Pay, frozen vs. continued longevity accrual, % of income replacement, B- Fund Contribution(if any), eligibility for equity in new contract, etc) Any help is appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I got the UAL CBA 2003 off www.airlinepilotcontract.com earlier today and asked a few retirement related questions here: http://forums.flightinfo.com/showthread.php?t=132816

As far as disability goes, we have both short term and long term disability. If you become disabled, typically you burn through all of your sick leave first, then go on short-term disability (90 days) then you go on long term disability at 55% pay. No B and C fund contributions, although they pay for your medical as much as they did before. There are offsets for state disability and a few other things I don't remember off the top of my head. The disability policies cost zero dollars per month. I'm pretty sure you continue to accrue longevity. The disability stuff will be both in the contract and separate LOA's.

We recently came to an agreement with the company about pilots on long term disability being able to earn a separate income while on disability. The benefit gets reduced depending upon how much the pilot earns on the side vs. getting possibly cut off altogether. We also are fighting with the company over over age 60 pilots on disability. Our contract, written before the age 60 rule has references that the company feels allows them to cut off pilots at age 60 from disability. We feel that they should pay until age 65. The company is, however, continuing to pay the over age 60 guys on disability while we argue over that aspect of our disability.

Nice. These are the hidden wages in UAL's pay scale. It will be interesting to see how these types of contract items get evaluated in the joint contract. Seems that UAL has a lot of them. Night pay, 5 hours of pay to reduce contractual rest period, min 2 hours pay for reserve callout even if no fly, and more. I think UAL will look at CAL's contract and just say you've got to be kidding.

I agree with our TOTAL compensation package, there are some hidden benefits that aren't necessarily reflected in our hourly wages. Another one is that you can get a good quality BCBS HMO if you're based in certain cities for ZERO dollars per month for a family plan. I have used this plan for years. It cost me 50 bucks to have a baby, although some of the copays are bit high, like to visit a specialist or to go to an ER.

I am sure that there are aspects of both of our contracts that need to be improved. If we can get past this SLI @&$?!@ that we're going to have to address, hopefully we can build upon the best of both of our contracts.

Driver, I not sure your information is accurate regarding UAL ST and LT disability. From my experience once accrued sick and vacation time was exhausted, only ST disability (90 days) is provided and is paid at 55% of the guarantee. The rest is correct regarding B and C fund contributions, and medical coverage during ST disability. If this has recently changed (in the last year) then I stand corrected but as recent as 2007 you only get ST disability. LT along with medical retirement compensation were lost in bankruptcy.

Heyas,

FWIW, at NW/DL, if you were out on LTD, you remained on that plan until you came back. It didn't switch to the new JCBA plan.

We still havel long term disability and medical retirement is one unfortunately qualifies for it. It's pretty mucj as described above, although I am away from my notes right now and can't verify. the only thing that changed to our PDI (i.e. pilot long term disability) during bankruptcy was the 72 month provision where the company could take a look at your personal situation and determine if you were still eligible. That changes, however, as I described above, where you will now be allowed earnings from a side job with some restrictions. If you look in Skynet under the benefits section, and also take a look at the e-mails the R&I MEC guys sent to everyone about two months ago, it will fill in the details.

Start at page DI-5. The latest agreement with the company concerning the 72 month determination is not reflected in this document yet but if you're signed up for ALPA e-mails you should have received the details a couple of months ago I think. The new 72 month deal, in my opinion, is an improvement over what we got in bankruptcy.

United is still under a BK contract...(correct)? Although there has been some changes, I still feel that the only movement will be up.
