I was just reading the Singapore Airlines website section about their new A380 being in the paint shop. According to the news release, they are expecting to take delivery in Oct 07. Does anyone know if this estimate is accurate, or is it just pie in the sky for general consumption?

Just curious...

That 380 was the demo. Not yet in service.

Looked at the PPRUNE site with everyone Ooh ahhing over Airbus overtaking revenued 747 at M0.87

B747 is probably most efficient at M0.85-M0.86 but crossing the pond on NAT track in MNPS airspace using Mach technique, Oceanic control don't want you to go over M0.84.

MMO for 747 is M0.92. Disregarding fuel burn, it can do M0.89 comfortably all day long.

I'll confirm the M.89 all day long, if you have the fuel, but she really is more efficient at about M.85ish.

Singapore does hire expats, but right now they are a bit overstaffed. Expat hiring has primarily been to Singapore Cargo over the last few years. Singapore mainline does hire Captains from time to time, but it may be awhile before they do again.

Singapore is the launch customer of the A380 and has plans to start revenue service in the fall.

If you want to fly the A380 then Emirates is the place to go. They are getting 50+ of the type with deliverys starting late next year.

"Singapore Air to auction seats on inaugural A380 flight through eBay"

Singapore Airlines said it has secured support from three partners — ExxonMobil, eBay and Paypal — for the charity flight.

ExxonMobil Aviation will donate the fuel for the flights while eBay will subsidize the fees and charges from the auction of the seats. PayPal, a global leader in online payment solutions, will rebate a portion of its fees and charges, the statement said.

I wonder for how much those seats will go for. Some Aviation Nut has payed $5.400 for a "First Flight" round trip on Virgin America of all places... ;)
