Boss is buying a new airplane, but he is really getting tired of all the restrictions he's been having by keeping the plane registered local. These include pilots and maintenance primarily. Anyone out there operate a N reg airplane based abroad?
Is maintenance easier or difficult to get approvals? For pilots I believe may be little easier since contract guys can be hired (if available) in short time basis?

Any input will be greatly appreciated.

Depends on the country, some will "allow" you to operate there. One big thing is if you plan on operating domestic flights (within the foreign country), it gets a little tricky--very difficult doing 135 since it's cabatoge.

Having pilots and mechanics based overseas isn't too difficult. One problem we have is getting heavy mx done, theres usually insane import taxes (on parts) so you have to plan accordingly. This isn't an issue unless there is an unforeseen problem.

Also, registration in another country usually triggers huge import/sales tax.

I guess the taxes will probably be the one big issue. But having it reg local (India)makes not difference either. For pilots to follow and comply with all the nonsense they ask for, is just plain stupid and not too many people last. For maintenance is getting worst and worst everyday, they only want their own people to touch the airplane and which they will F&*Ck it up anyway.
Someone suggested (Isle of Man).......
