Here's the story on the female Continental pilot who also is suing the TSA on there enhanced pat downs

On Thursday November 4th TSA prevented me from taking my commuter flight to EWR to work my BOM (Mumbai) trip. I was detained by TSA for two hours. I have an artificial hip.

I had the choice of either going through the body scanner and subjecting myself to radiation and violation of HIPPA laws (medical privacy laws) or being sexually molested. I have adjusted as much as I could since my pelvic area was violated by TSA in April 2010. That event affected my job performance, personal life and health for months.

I don’t wear a bra, company or union pin, earrings, watch and wear pull up pants without a zipper. The pilots I’ve seen going through secondary screening and a fellow First Officer on my last trip had never had their chest, butt, and groin area inappropriately touched. I made a decision on November 4th as a professional pilot that safety of flight could be compromised as a result of being physically violated by TSA today and as a result I would be overstressed and fatigued for my flight to BOM. TSA is now affecting my livelihood.
I just found out from a friend today that even if there is just a metal scanner at the check point in FLL all passengers alarming are aggressively molested. TSA is no longer wanding and patting down only areas that alarm. Until November 1,2010 TSA was only molesting the women that had to go through secondary screening. Now anyone going through secondary is being groped.

The FAA is involved in a major fatigue study. I feel the largest impact on fatigue is stress. Pilots are subject to physical, mental and emotional stress everyday they get on an airplane caused by going through TSA security. We have all had background checks and have been fingerprinted and yet I cannot go to work now because of an artificial hip. I could carry a gun and not be molested but not just carry my artificial hip. I and any other pilot should not have to submit to physical molestation to do our job. Pilots are on the front line of security.

I greatly appreciate the support of everyone I have flown with and shared what I have been going through. I know none of you would want this happening to your wives, daughters, sisters and mothers. Now everyone, men, women, and children who have artificial joints, shrapnel, petal plates and screw will be groped everywhere, not just where they alarm.

Subjecting ourselves to additional radiation with the body scanner and its invasion of medical privacy (if anyone has a pace maker, IUD, radiation implant for prostate cancer etc. etc. ) or being sexually molested should not be part of our job. TSA is now actively groping the breasts, butt, pelvic and groin area, and running hands up thighs until they stop. It is a hugh stressor, contributes to fatigue and safety of flight. Now it is costing me my livelihood.

TSA approved the crew pass some time ago but it is up to the company or union to implement it. A short time fix would be to continue using the wands and only pat down the area that alarms. I was told by TSA that would not be happening as there is too much big money involved with the body scanner.

A friend of mine yesterday saw TSA run their hand all over an elderly women and then pull the front of her pants out and run their hand on her skin between the passenger’s stomach and pants.

Maybe TSA should be screened every time they go to work, after all they have access to the secure side of the terminal. They can be told to head through the scanner and get a dose of radiation or get a full search, then someone can go through all there stuff and steal from them.
I wonder how many would quite, or how difficult it would be to get new employees.
 
Having listened to this drool for the past couple of weeks, can somebody offer up a solution so the rest of us don't have to worry about getting blown out of the sky. Having a grainy and anonymous x-ray of you butt is a small price to pay to avoid falling out of a plane at 35K feet.

Over 80% of the population agree with the new procedures. We have a couple of hippie agitators worried about their "junk" (what a wimp, he was going on a hunting trip and didn't want his "junk" x-rayed?) and another one who thinks the TSA is a bunch of perverts wanting to grope her. Highly unlikely! These people are trying to ruin my life.

Here is a CBS video as to one reason why the procedures were changed. It is real, it is a fact, and we have to deal with it-
A$$ Bombs: The New Horrible Thing to Fear

In a harrowing report, CBS introduces us to yet another thing to dread and fear, courtesy of that innovative R&D team at Al Qaeda: Rectal bombs. It's been revealed that an Al Qaeda operative, who last month tried to assassinate Saudi Arabia's counter terrorism chief, detonated explosives in his butt. Abdullah Asieri had arranged a meeting with Prince Mohammed Bin Nayef to talk about a truce, but it was just a ruse to get close to him with his exploding ass.

Asieri was able to get past two sets of airport security, including metal detectors, and spend 30 hours in the close company of the prince's own secret service agents, before detonating the bomb during his meeting with Nayef, who was slightly injured. Naturally, the airport screening process is about to get a whole lot more invasive, unless the TSA just decides to ban a$$holes entirely.

Why are you so worried about someone's unscreened butt crack? If your concern is "getting blown out of the sky", you probably ought to start worrying about the unscreened cargo and mail on passenger flights.
 
The new protocol does not facilitate the detection of internal cavity bombs. So...are rectal and vaginal exams next? Is this an opportunity to combine airline security with wellness? Imagine the savings in health care costs and lives saved through early disease detection.

Are they going to hire an army of proctologists, urologists and gynecologists?

Perhaps they should consult a procto-psychiatrist or a neuro-proctologist to look into the rectal-cranial inversion syndrome that seems to be endemic in the Federal government.

Sure: Intelligence, profiling, and interviewing anyone who arouses suspicion. You're looking for a technical solution for a human problem, which is why it's never going to work.

You want to see a system that works, look at how the Israelis handle it. They don't bother with the AIT machines because they understand their ineffectiveness.

And you need to accept that you'll never be 100% safe. What TSA is doing is little more than security theater, at our expense.

Over 80% of the population agree with the new procedures.
Even if that number were accurate, that doesn't make the machines any more effective, or the radiation exposure any safer.
Rectal bombs.
Guess what your new magic machine can't see?


What's next? MRIs? Cavity Searches as primary screening? Where do you draw the line?
 
A few points-
"A CBS News poll released Monday indicated the majority of Americans, 81%, agree with the use of full-body scanning machines to screen passengers at airports."

"Since the enhanced pat-downs were enacted, 34 million passengers have gone through the new procedure, but TSA has received fewer than 700 complaints. Fotenos added that 99% of passengers choose the full-body scan over the pat-down."

While the scanners may not get the body cavity items, isn't it comforting to know that everything else should be exposed (sorry for the pun)? We'll get to the loonie birds that will put stuff in their cavities later. Everything has to be done in steps.

Cargo scares the dickens out of me and I agree, that is a problem.

That because TSA doesn't want passengers to know their rights. In KCMH just a few weeks ago, the screener was shouting, "Take everything off. You will be going through the scanner. There's no way out of it -- this is going to happen."

Since most people are sheep, they assume he wasn't lying to them. He was. When I declined the AIT scan, the passenger behind me said, "You can't do that, can you?"

Should we shut down the TSA becasue a few radicals have a modesty problem?
No, we should shut it down because it's an overfunded, ineffective agency that's done no better than the private screeners. The only difference is the dramatically higher cost in having every employee work for the government, right down to the drowsy one watching the paint dry by the exit lane.

The alternative is profiling, interview, and intelligence -- just as I said in my previous post. In our zeal not to "offend" anyone by profiling, we've decided to go with an even worse option by treating everyone as a suspect. Not only is it a waste of resources, it is ineffective as a security methodology.
 
Maybe if you could ask the pilots/flight crews that died in 9-11 they would say please go through the body scan and extra security. It's part of the job thank Osama for that.
