I was doing a search on a UPS DC-8 I saw in ICT last week and this is what I found:

N-number : N807UP
Aircraft Serial Number : 46007
Aircraft Manufacturer : DOUGLAS
Model : DC-8-73F
Engine Manufacturer : CFM INTL.
Model : CFM56 SERIES
Aircraft Year : 1968
Owner Name : UNITED PARCEL SERVICE CO
Owner Address : 1400 NORTH HURSTBOURNE PKW
LOUISVILLE, KY, 40223
Registration Date : 10-Mar-1983
Airworthiness Certificate Type : Experimental
Approved Operations : To show compliance with FAR

Airworthiness Certificate Type: Experimental????

I wouldn't think UPS would be operating "Experimental" aircraft. What makes this DC-8 and experimental?

Sounds like a mistake in typing IMO.

......

It's interesting that it states 'Approved Operations : To show compliance with FAR'. It sounds like they may be using the airplane to get some modifications approved. Were they loading boxes into it? Obviously 'experimental' airplanes are part 91 only.

could be something they were testing for UPS AT.... formerly Appolo Avionics....
