America West recalls some pilots, flight attendants
PHOENIX, March 19 (Reuters) - America West Airlines, the No. 8 U.S. carrier, said on Tuesday it would recall 170 flight attendants and 38 pilots from furlough to handle an expected increase in passenger traffic.
The Phoenix-based unit of America West Holdings Corp. (NYSE:AWA - news) in February recalled 75 pilots from a group of 179 laid off following the Sept. 11 attacks along with 244 flight attendants.
Since the October layoffs, the airline has recalled more than 1,500 employees and expects to recall the remaining flight attendants by the end of the year.
