    posting/updating pireps

First off let me start by saying most everyone on ATC is quite helpful and professional. This isn't a bash just a simple question.... Is there a reason why Denver/Albuquerque Center rarely if ever posts all of the PIREPS concerning moderate turbulence and mountain wave? I've even reported...

Why hire military over your competition?

I'm curious why all of the majors continue to hire almost exclusively military while the LCCs like JetBlue, Allegiant, Virgin America and Spirit get one or two spots a month if any. If I were in charge of a major airline I would want people who have already flown my same types of aircraft and...

    Allegiant Work Rules

Just cut and pasted a bunch of Allegiant work rules to the Compass thread on the regional forum. Sadly their contract blew ours out of the water. Since a lot of people won't see it I thought it would be important to post on here as well. We have voted in a union and are working on it, but...

FAA rest rules take effect soon

All airlines have had over a year now to prepare for the upcoming rest rules. In less than one year all passenger airlines must comply. Does anyone know of any airline that is actively preparing for it? Seems we're set to hear a myriad of excuses in 9-10 months and I'm curious why no one is...

    Eagle PTO accrual

What is the rate of PTO accrual negotiated for American Eagle pilots in their new TA? Saw that they switched from dedicated vacation and sick time to PTO and am curious. If you don't want to post it here you can PM me. Thanks

WSJ new report on Air France crash

    Mountain Wave Question

Today around Denver I heard reports from several aircraft of +/- 30kts at FL370. It got me thinking... is there really that much margin from max down to initial buffet in cruise for most airliners? I remember the Embraer went as low as 175kts at FL370 but I don't recall the top speed. And I...

FO pay year 1-3 adjusted for inflation

The following is current pay rates put into a calculator to show 1990 dollars. This is what you would have been paid in 1990 if wages were set side by side and adjusted for current inflation. I hope this clarifies for some of you veterans of the industry where we stand now. American MD80 FO...

http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2009-01-20-plane_N.htm?loc=interstitialskip Why would they do this? Isn't this just admitting fault with an unavoidable bird strike? I know my luggage isn't worth $5000.

    Airline 101

1- Don't believe anything you hear the hiring board tell you. 2- Don't believe anything the training department tells you. 3- Don't believe anything you hear in the crew room. 4- Don't leave one regional for another. No, not even for a two year upgrade. That was for people hired two years...

    Midwest ungetting new aircrafts

This is bad. I send my best to all involved. A spokesman for the union that represents Midwest Airlines pilots says the airline has informed the union that it plans to stop flying its older, less fuel efficient MD-80 fleet. In addition, the airline is planning to slash jobs...

1000' below a heavy on the LOC

This has happened to me twice in the last month. Once at YYZ and once at JFK. RJ 7 miles in trail of a heavy, both of us on the LOC and us 1000' below them. I realize we have the separation, but when they capture the GS they will descend into our altitude and we all know what the wake will...

    Odd NJ question

I'm unfamiliar with fractional flying, so I got to wondering about flying without a cockpit door separating you from the pax. Can you read the newspaper while flying at cruise? I'd have to assume that the paying customers can see right in and would object.
