Phaedrus,
You can do a search on here and find a ton of information on the pros and cons of hauling people or boxes. As for IND, yes it is one of our bigger hubs. The second biggest I believe. Good luck!

The term "Maddog" can refer to any MD aircraft. At FedEx we only have one MD aircraft so we just call it the Maddog. I'm not sure what American did when they had both the MD11 and the MD80.

Hmmmm, well those are the same limos that used to pick me up in IND when I was a commuter pilot. If they wanted to rub it in the faces of the other employees then I think we'd get limos everywhere. How do you explain Oakland? I think some of you guys get a little too paranoid about things.
Are you sure you want a recommendation from Mike? Just kidding, Mike is a great guy. I used to flight instruct with him at Tech. :)
When did you graduate?

There have been a lot of rumblings in the news lately about cargo security concerns. I think it has to due with that rather than our contract negotations. Just relax and wait for more information to come out before you jump the gun and cry foul.

I really don't see what the big deal is about hiring into the right seat of the MD11. An airplane is an airplane and it's not like there aren't other companies doing it already.
I recommend getting on with a regional that has a fast upgrade so he can get his pic time and then apply for an on-line checkairman position. They like guys that go above and beyond what's required. It's certainly not a requirement but they do like it. He doesn't have to have military...
I'm not really sure where the 3 letters of rec thing is coming from but I've had two guys get interviews recently and both only had one letter of rec from me. I did walk their resumes into the chief pilot and I had flown with both of them. Maybe it was the $1000 check made to cash that was...
Civilian or military it makes no difference. I'm 100% civilian and I made it. Both routes are good ones just weigh the pros and cons of each and decide what fits you the best.

You don't need heavy jet time to get on with us, just at least 1000 turbine pilot in command. The biggest thing I flew was a regional jet before I was hired at FedEx. They do like to see that you've done something extra such as checkairman, sim instructor, chief pilot, etc.. Good luck to ya...
I really don't see what the big deal is with having a new guy going to the right seat of the MD11. There are other companies that hire into the right seat of the DC10 and MD11. The MD11 is not that hard to fly or learn and most of the guys coming aboard have glass experience anyway. Then...
I think you'll be okay as long as you haven't started training by the time the bid closes. Then again I've been known to be wrong a time or two.
