    Colgan 3407 Down in Buffalo

That was a really well written post with good insight. I don't work for an airline, but I agree, a stall is not a constant altitude maneuver. The FAA is stupid. It's already been found to have contributed to the Pinnacle 3701 crash. Sad no one learned the lesson.

Not so good news about flight 3407

IF this is true then it would be the second accident in recent memory in which the pilots misused the autopilot, stalled, and then recovered inappropriately.

I haven't forgotten, but the accident sequence happened so fast it doesn't seem like the aircraft would have had time to slow down...I would think the increase in lift and decrease in stall speed would have offset the increase in drag. I don't know what the cause was but you act like you know...

Looks like the investigation is over. NTSB can go home. "Twenty seconds later, pilots engaged the wings' flaps — a normal landing procedure. It was then that they apparently lost control of the aircraft." Please tell us how lowering the flaps causes a stall. Funny, I thought flaps reduced...

Wikipedia says the Dash 8 Q400 entered service in 2000, and there are currently 140 in service. That's far from a proven design. The 737 was the most popular airliner in the world and was in service for 30 years before it was discovered it had a fatal problem (rudder jamming). Just because the...

Why would the stick shaker activate if it was a tail stall, unless it was actually a wing stall? Or is it possible to have both at the same time?

Liberals rejoice! Re-regulation of the airline industry in Hawaii possible

Then what regulation do you want? A 100 percent free market is only not achievable because of a misinformed public and power-hungry politicians that continually desire more and more regulation. That doesn't mean we shouldn't try to move in that direction. A free market is the most efficient...

Liberals rejoice! Re-regulation of the airline industry in Hawaii possible

What theory of Keynes supports price and supply controls in a market for airline service? Keynesianism is a set of macroeconomic theories and I don't see how his ideas are even applicable to this discussion. Even then, the Keynesian school of thought began to decline decades ago after the...

Liberals rejoice! Re-regulation of the airline industry in Hawaii possible

What a bunch of BS. We get further and further away from a free market every day. If you think gas is a free market, I suppose you have never heard of OPEC, then. Or the military action that this country has undertaken to secure oil supplies (aka subsidies). You also forgot the "demand" part of...

    He's the PIC!

Wow. You've got to be kidding me. Click on his username in the video description. Apparently he likes to shoot footage while holding the camera in his hand and flying solo (including takeoff and landing). For example, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I7CUTGEWmmw

how long does it take to recover from spins?

In the 152, after a 3-turn spin, it took about 1 second to stop the rotation and 4 seconds to recover from the dive.

    More on gas prices...

I have a degree in Economics, and just had to say that this thread is ridiculous. Gas prices are up -- the sky is falling -- boohoo.
