    Jeppesen instrument approach notes

An airport we fly into underwent a runway number change from 3/21 to 4/22 and the addition of an LPV approach where it used to be strictly a GPS approach. The approach is the RNAV (GPS) Rwy 4L. Note (1)[Which applies to STRAIGHT-IN LANDING RWY 4L] "Rwy 4L straight-in and circling and circling...

Pilatus PC12 MT 5 blade prop

I am curious if any of you PC12 pilots have flown the Pilatus with the 5 bladed composite MT prop. How does it compare to the factory 4 blade? Performance, noise, vibration...?

    going paperless with the iPad

My company is thinking of going paperless in the cockpit with an iPad and an iPad for a backup. I'm all for it and I hope it happens. My only reservation is that we will be switching to government charts if we go paperless. I have been using only Jepps for the last 10 years or so but I think...

    inner ear headphones

Which inner ear headphones work best under your headset? I'm looking for a set that doesn't protrude out from my ear making it uncomfortable under David Clarke's or Bose, etc... Good sound would be a plus but so would a low price, what is your favorite?

    obstacle departure?

Departing an airport IFR. I get my clearance on the ground. Am I required to execute the obstacle departure procedure from that airport, assuming there is no DP or SID?

    Honeywell Primus Apex question?

Does anyone know how to create a course/track line to an airport that lines up with its runway? This comes in handy when flying to an airport without a straight in approach or no approaches at all. I used to do this with the legacy Pilatus that used the KLN90B. With that system, I remember...

    polished frost

I heard the part of FAR 135.227 that allows frost to be polished smooth for takeoff has been removed. My FAR/AIM 2010 still shows this as part of the FAR's: "Takeoffs may be made with frost adhering to the wings, or stabilizing or control surfaces, if the frost has been polished to make it...

PC-12 max cruise power true airspeeds?

I'm wondering if I am flying one of the slowest PC-12/45's out there. Our airplane averages between 245 - 255 kts for max cruise speed. I'm just curious what cruise speeds the rest of you are getting in your PC-12's? I'm curious what the NG typically gets if anyone is flying one.

    radar service terminated

When ATC tells you that radar service is terminated, does that also allow you to squawk 1200 even if they don't tell you to squawk 1200 or squawk VFR?

    alternate airport weather?

Under part 135, once you have determined that you need to declare an alternate airport, I have a couple of questions. Can you always use the 200 and 1/2 or 400 and 1 rule to determine if the weather is good enough to use said airport as your alternate? Or, are there times when you have to use...

landing flap settings at a class "G" airport

FAR 91.126 "Operating on or in the vicinity of an airport in class 'G' airspace. (c) Flap settings. Except when necessary for training or certification, the pilot in command of a civil turbojet-powered aircraft must use, as a final flap setting, the minimum certificated landing flap setting...

    passenger attacks flight attendant

My friend is an FO on Horizon and last night right after they lifted off for Billings some psycho woman got up, attacked the FA and threatened to kill her. According to him, two good 'ol Montana boys from rows 1 and 2 took her down. They turned around and landed, she resisted arrest. I thought...

    pertinent aeronautical charts

Can anyone tell me what "pertinent" aeronautical charts means? If I'm flying part 91 on a VFR day, does that mean I have to have a sectional? Does a WAC chart suffice, how about a TAC? Also under FAR 91.503, pertaining to flashlight batteries, what does "D" cells or the equivalent mean? I...

    temporary FO

The air ambulance company I work for has recently decided that we will have two pilots sit up front in the King Air because the autopilot is MEL'd (in order to fly in IFR conditions). I know it says in the MEL that 2 pilots can be used in IFR conditions when the autopilot is MEL'd but we don't...

    Easiest airplane to land?

Of all the airplanes I've flown my choice for easiest to land is without a doubt, the Pilatus PC-12. The most satisfying to land well though would have to be the Cessna 120.(wheel landing)

    powered parachutes

I saw a couple of powered parachutes take off today and I was wondering what aerodynamically causes them to turn/climb/descend? I watched one come in and land and the guy did three big balloons and then plopped it in. I don't know if they are hard to land or if this person was just...
