Just Got Off Work - Welcome To My Hell

Isn't that all instructing is about? Had a student I got in a "let's swap our nightmare students" deal who had soloed a year or two before I flew with him. He was Ukrainian-American and was an engineer at P&W. Maybe "rudder" means "aileron" in Russian or something but I think he thought he...

    Passengers have NO CLUE!!!

Uh, he was from Spanish Fork, UTAH. I know they do things a liitle differently in Utah but I think it's still part of the U.S.

No more ASA new-hire classes til '04

We were told in March that we would be the last class for the year. Here we are, 7, 8, classes later....... To paraphrase Mr. Twain, if you don't like the hiring news at ASA, wait a few minutes, it will change. Keep the faith.

    ASA and SLC

Where is the plane going to arrive from to do the SLC-ONT run? I'm assuming it will be DFW crews. Better looking FAs, ramp ops that aren't a complete clusterf**k, and now SLC. Where's that da*n bid preference sheet?

    Stupid Airline Slogans

ASA's slogan, at least in ATL: "P!ssing off the world 50 people at a time."

    ASA Quality of Life

And that 25 year old will have 10 years more than the 35 year old to make up for the loss of what, at ASA at least, amounts to maybe 20 numbers. Anyone who comes in at the bottom of the list will be unhappy with the method of determining seniority no matter what it is. And how do you quantify...

    CommutAir & LGA & CLE

In the year and a half I was at Commutair these rumors surfaced somewhat regularly. We were getting Saabs from BizEx, ATRs from CoEx, buying Shuttle America, etc. None of that ever happened so like everything else in aviation, believe it when you see it. Stubborn is not the word for...

    Decision time...ACA or ASA...Help!

A little off the subject but... ...I was wondering if any ACA guys (or girls) can chime in on the (relative) quality of crew scheduling there. I'm beginning to think that there's only one brain available to the scheduling dept at ASA and all the schedulers have to share it. There seem to be a...

    ASA Brasilia upgrade goes to.....

If they're so short on FOs, how did they manage to put two in the same plane?

    Boston-Maine airways

Some people will do anything for an airline job. Anyone know what the pay is like? The 19 seat non-union carrier I used to work at gave FOs a dollar an hour raise per year and captains something like $1.20 per year, topping out at around $40 per hour after 10 years. It would be kind of rough...

Who will hire me with a SODA?

I know of at least 2 guys with SODAs at ASA because of their color vision.

    Attn: Commutair pilots

I was with CommutAir for just under the past 2 years and in that time they have never picked up the tab for the hotel. Unless something has changed recently you will get paid your guarantee (19 hours/week, $16/hour) and 24 hour per diem ($1.25/hour) while in training with the per diem meant to...

    Headsets

Re: Another view "I just think they're overrated because of some kind of herd mentality." Sounds to me like everyone is relating their personal experiences with DC so I don't see how there could be a "herd mentality" here. People might buy them for that reason initially but unless you're a...

    12 legs a day!

This was from when CommutAir still had some old 1900s with the power steering option. There aren't any in the fleet today but single engine taxis are still done (and allowed). Just takes more muscle and a little planning.

    12 legs a day!

    1. "CommutAir 2525, slow to approach speed, you're following traffic, a Northwest DC-9, 12 o'clock, 5 miles, and you've got 120 knots on him". 2. Thankfully, the door is up front on a 1900. Of course, doing the walkthrough before taking my seat caused the same problem. Just had to remember...

    Quality time?

KSU, So if you can't log IMC time unless you're handling the controls then that means as PNF you can't log night time either, right? Seems to me that they're both conditions of flight. Guess I better go back and delete all that IMC and night time I logged when I was an instructor. After...

    ASA, ACA, American Eagle

You'll probably get a lot of different opinions but the bottom line these days is that the one that hires you is the best. You'll be waiting a while for ASA unless you're in the pool and Eagle has a bunch of people on furlough so nobody's going there anytime soon. Not sure of ACA's status. I...

    Anything new at CommutAir?

I don't think so! Sinkrate, You put your name on the old board so don't BS us, there's no confusion here. You know that once someone finds out who you are the news spreads like wildfire to anybody who's interested. Maybe you should try a new screen name. Just remember to keep your...
