    AF vs. the grunts

Having been (way too) close to both sides of the CAS discussion for a couple of years, I'm afraid that CAS is one of those military/political furballs that's never going to get straightened out. The sad truth is that NEITHER the Army's nor the AF's senior leadership really wants CAS -- to the...

    Active Duty question

The short answer is yes -- talk to an officer recruiter. The procedure is that you'll be approved for and assigned to your specialty prior to ever signing on the dotted line. If your recruiter tries to feed you a line about going into another career field and then applying for UPT, haul a$$...

    Riddle job applicants

Bobby, I think you're dead-on target. The USAF used to conduct flight screening at the Academy in T-41s, but it died with the T-3 program. There's been talk for a while in brining it back with C-182s or similar, but the USAF just doesn't have the active duty pilots available to instruct...

    Fedex Interview

As long as they're sealed I don't think it matters -- mine were at least a year old -- I ordered all my transcripts when I started the airline hunt. Z

    Fedex Interview

It wasn't anything strange at all -- just the usual stuff: logbooks, certificates, college transcripts, FE written, and I think maybe passport. That was in Feb of this year, but I doubt things have changed. Z

    What Is A FAC?

Jim, I was recently paroled from my two years, and the current rules were that Army types weren't "legal" controllers -- several of the arty and fwd observer types were introduce to "emergency CAS" controls, but when they were talking to live aircraft there was a qualified ALO or ETAC "over...

    What Is A FAC?

Hey Mud Eagle, There's no such thing as an "Army GFAC" -- you were talking to some poor Air Force SOB who's forced to live with the boys in green. The Army can't spell CAS, much less control it -- I should know, the longest decade of my life were the two years I spent as an ALO at Ft Hood. Z

FedEx hiring: 01 June to present?

Kav, You should have heard something either way a month ago. This is the one time that I'd say it's okay to give Kim a call and just make sure that you didn't fall through the cracks. Good luck, Z

    Dd214

All the hiring depts that I've dealt with understand that you won't get your 214 until after you're actually discharged. I sent in a copy of my separation orders, but I don't even think that was necessary. FedEx just told me to send in a copy of my 214 after I actually got it (which was well...

    Fed Ex

Higher Power runs a specific FedEx sim prep. It runs about $450 for an hour in the 727 with an instructor doing the FedEx profile. It was pricey, but my attitude was it was better to do the prep and not have needed to than the other way around. Z

    Getting a Fed Ex interview

Jumpseat up to Memphis and get one of your buds to introduce you to his Asst Chief Pilot. That seems to have gotten a couple of guys in my interview group out of the doldrums. Z

Albie, Betcha he's counting his MS Flightsim flights. Sure hope that's not real Eagle time. Z

    FED EX Call

Ditto the above two posts. I called Air Inc prior to my FedEx interview for their general info to see if I wanted to do a phone prep. Turned out that I'd gleaned more and better info from this board, WFFF, etc, then what they had -- their "expert counselor" didn't give me a thing I already...

Military to FAA Flight Time Conversion

KODI#, Each airline has its own specifics on how they want you to log PIC, and tend to spell it out pretty clearly in the application. Most only want the time you actually signed for the aircraft, while at least a few (SWA included, I think, but don't quote me) allow you to log all time after...

Take bonus-stay in the Air Force or ??

BeeVee, I'm separating with 14 years, 1 month and 15 days in service. I decided to get out at about the 12 year point, so I think I know exactly what you're going through. Let me give you a few of the points that led me to this decision. 1. It's NOT about the money -- I want to get up and...

    Successful Stop-Loss Waiver Template?

I'll tell you why: For the first time in their careers, the flesh peddlers are not having to brief declining pilot retention numbers to the generals at the weekly staff meetings. And who has the primary input into who's going to be released from from Stop Loss? You guessed it, those same...

    Successful Stop-Loss Waiver Template?

fewb, If that's true then it's total BS -- if people are needed at undermanned locations then they should be sent there from overmanned locations regardless of whether they've applied for waivers or not. If AMC is doing what you're saying then they're punishing people for simply exercising their...

    Successful Stop-Loss Waiver Template?

GV, Guess it's your lucky day -- today was my last day in the squadron, and as I was cleaning my personal stuff off the gonkulator I decided to save all my Stop Loss waiver paperwork for some odd reason. Drop me a pm with your email address and I'll send you what I've got. FWIW, my waiver was...

Stop Loss Waiver Denied by 3 Star

RMI, You're obviously not educated in the "Do-as-I-say-not-as-I-do" leadership style. It became very popular among senior officers promoted during the previous administration.

Stop Loss Waiver Denied by 3 Star

Oli, I would immediately resubmit your waiver package. If there's one thing that I've learned from this fiasco is that it is VERY personality driven -- there is most likely a person at AETC/DP who REALLY makes the decision(I know there was at ACC/DP), and their recommendation is rubber stamped...
