Will the love be there for John Ornstein or Brian Bedford when they pass? They've done the same thing in a way. Taken advantage of a glut of pilot labor to get them to work more for less than their peers at then other airlines.
Yessir, they are getting hosed!
From the other forum:

They went ch11 for the same reasons delta and NWA did. Reset the wages and work rules that would not be accomplished through negotiations. Usair was ch11 and heading towards ch7 until the drunk out west threw a lifeline. The profession would have rebounded much quicker with the ch7...
I'll start. 1. They have shown that integrity and your word doesn't count if you don't get your way. 2. The ********************ty wages and workrules have hampered the ability of other pilot groups to make large improvements to their ch11 contracts.

Reality is that sw always had a labor cost advantage until the mid 2000s, then they had a the fuel hedges. Throw in a lot of enthusiastic employees and they were minting money and putting a world of hurt on the rest of us. The product was not anything to write home about but it didn't matter...
Looks like as they upgauge flights back to what were traditional mainline DL and NWA, marketing is trying to figure out what to do with too many subcontracted large RJs. Your paying a set fee for them anyway. Instead of an extra segment or two from MSP-Dsm, Oma, Msn or Atl-Sav, Bna, Cha, etc...
Outside of a bunch of anonymous, possible Alaska pilot's arguing with GL on here, where is the proof of any of this? Is this coming from Alaska's training house? If so, we all know the school house at any airline is worse than middle school girls as far as rumor spreading goes. Can/will...
First things first. GL is a troll and y'all keep falling for it. That being said red, sw started out as a bottom feeder like virgin, jetblue, skybus, reno, valutjet, etc. The difference was outstanding mgmt. and lots of luck. 1. You don't have RJs because your mgmt. was smart enough to...
Obviously you don't fly for Delta or have been in the crew rooms. I fly almost exclusively 2007-2010 hires on the 88. I've been a CAPT. since Jan 2008 and to the best of my recollection have flown with 7 non Caucasian males. Every single one was equally as qualified as the Caucasian males...
