    Mesa is hiring (?)

Take a look at the MAPD home page. I hope this is true. That would be a good sign for the economy. Hasn't Mesa worked out some new feeder deals with a couple of majors. On the other hand, this very well may be Kit Darby-inspired pilot shortage boosterism.

Squawk sheets . . . or another reason why good English is important to pilots

Reprinted from an e-mail I received today: Gripe Sheets After every flight, pilots fill out a form called a gripe sheet, which conveys to the mechanics problems encountered with the aircraft during the flight that need repair or correction. The mechanics read and correct the problem, and...

    FAA Jobs Application Process

I had a member send me a PM on how to apply for FAA jobs. His/her options would not let me respond directly to the private, so I will answer this way. Hopefully, he/she will see this post, and maybe others will amplify on my comments. [/b]I had applied for ASI positions at one time. As far as...

    Mac v. PC

We got off on this tangent last week, but the thread was lost after the board's database crashed. Anyone have opinions regarding Macs versus PCs? Pros? Cons? I realize that less software is available for Macintoshes, but that's a non-issue for me. I like the idea of how LAN, etc. and other...

    Pistol packin' pilots

I heard this on NPR this evening. Here's copy from AP : Feb 19, 7:24 PM EST Feds Announce Plan for Arming Pilots By LESLIE MILLER Associated Press Writer WASHINGTON (AP) -- Commercial pilots who want to carry guns in the cockpit would have to undergo psychological and background checks...

    Tanker Groundings

The government is grounding fire fighting tankers. Here's a link to NPR audio on the story. You need RealAudio. Essentially, the opinion is that many firefighting aircraft, especially the World War II variety, are being called upon to work harder and to play a greater role in fire suppression...

    Type ratings

Just was wondering if experience in civilian-derived military equipment translates into type ratings on your civilian certficate when you visit the FSDO to get your civilian tickets. E.g., if you get a DC-10 type if you are a KC-10 driver, B737 type if you fly T-43s, etc., without having to...

    Fight training, Yugoslavian-style

Looking for a flight school? Here's an interesting choice. It must be looking for American students, if it advertises prices in U.S. dollars. :) I like the idea of getting the multi in a 310. :)

    Dress Code

Dress Codes We had to wear ties, decent shirts and non-jean pants at ERAU-Prescott when I was there eleven years ago. The pants could be Dockers or something. Women didn't wear ties but wore equivalent blouses. Students had to wear long pants, shoes and socks, and shirts with sleeves for...

    Riddle job applicants

I just saw a full-page ad in my Sunday Denver Post classifieds that ERAU is establishing a presence at the Air Force Academy in COS: "Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, a private, multi-campus institution . . . has partnered with the U.S. Air Force Academy! We're providing introductory...

    Spiffy Airline Livery

What's your favorite all-time airline paint job? I always liked the early TWA livery , especially the red-on-white version, not to mention TWA's Connies. The 1950s Continental livery, as shown on the model here , is another of my favorites.

    Unusual variants of familiar aircraft

I was surfing around just now and found this variation on a theme: ENAER T-35 Pilan Read the page to see what's familiar about this aircraft. Anybody seen one of these? Or know of similar variations on different a/c (we won't count the T-34; everyone knows it is a Bonanza variant)?

    Good Airline CEO

It's probably easier to begin by citing examples of bad airline CEOs. How 'bout the following for a real cast of characters? E.L. Cord. Ted Baker. A few recent ones: Carl Icahn. Bob Crandall (some people might disagree, but his institution of the "B" scale was appalling). Dick Ferris. Of...

    Phantom Mustang

Anyone know where to find this model kit? It was put out by Revell in the early sixties. I built one when I was a kid back then. I read that a limited edition aniversary kit came out in 1995. All responses will be appreciated.
