Didn't mean to get the conversation riled up about per diem. The original thread was about pay. I thought it was a valid point to bring up for someone considering moving over....first year pay can be tough at many jobs.

You can add about 5K to 6K to those figures for per diem. I know a lot of people don't call that money but I know that I only use about half on the road so it is something.

SWA pilots can drop trips....very flexible schedule once you get off reserve. The sitting on Jumpseat less than two hours is very seldom used. Matter of fact they really don't do it unless the pilot asks to. Yes, that happens when a pilot wants to help get a non rev or rev person onboard...
It's not just a job.....it is what it is....nothing is guaranteed....someone could buy US.
Try and be happy....I don't care what you say SWA is better than AAI ever dreamed of being. And that comes from the words of fellow AAI pilots. You had not put too much time in....I've been here 8...
Don't know if the pay is at an all time high.. Years ago it was a Cadilac a month....
One of my first guys I flew for was an Airways Captain...retired in 1988. He was making over 300K then...compare that to today's dollars.
But I would recommend it.
